Information Processing and Security Systems
Information Processing and Security Systems is a collection of forty papers that were originally presented at an international multi-conference on Advanced Computer Systems (ACS) and Computer Information Systems and Industrial Management Applications (CISIM) held in Elk, Poland. This volume describes the latest developments in advanced computer systems and their applications within artificial intelligence, biometrics and information technology security. The volume also includes contributions on computational methods, algorithms and applications, computational science, education and industrial management applications.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the International Conference on Information Networking, ICOIN 2007, held in Estoril, Portugal, in January 2007.The 82 revised full papers included in the volume were carefully selected and improved during two rounds of reviewing and revision from a total of 302 submissions. Topics covered include sensor networks; ad-hoc, mobile and wireless networks; optical networks; peer-to-peer networks and systems; routing; transport protocols.

This volume, LNCS 3961, contains the papers selected from those presented at the International Conference on Information Networking 2006 (ICOIN 2006), held in Sendai, Japan. ICOIN 2006 constituted the 20th Anniversary of ICOIN. This year's conference program mainly focused on the field of ubiquitous and overlay networks, and on technology for ad hoc and sensor networks, mobile networks, transport networks, QoS and resource management, network security, peer-to-peer and overlay networks, resource management, and their applications. In response to the call for papers, 468 papers were submitted by authors from 23 different countries from Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. Each paper was evaluated by two or three internationally known experts to assure the excellence of the papers presented at ICOIN 2006. To keep within the conference topics, some excellent papers had to be rejected to our regret. After extensive reviews, 141 papers were chosen for presentation in 25 technical sessions. Furthermore, another review of these papers was performed during presentation, and finally 98 papers were selected for printing in LNCS 3961. We expect this will add to the excellence of ICOIN 2006. The papers in LNCS 3961 are categorized into 8 sections: Mobile and Ubiquitous Networking, Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks, Advanced Networking, QoS and Resource Management, Network and Transport Protocols, Network Security, Applications and Services, and Peer-to-Peer and Overlay Networks, ranging from information networking to applications in next generation networks.

Information Geometry : Near Randomness and Near Independence
This volume will be useful to practising scientists and students working in the application of statistical models to real materials or to processes with perturbations of a Poisson process, a uniform process, or a state of independence for a bivariate process. We use information geometry to provide a common differential geometric framework for a wide range of illustrative applications including amino acid sequence spacings in protein chains, cryptology studies, clustering of communications and galaxies, cosmological voids, coupled spatial statistics in stochastic fibre networks and stochastic porous media, quantum chaology. Introduction sections are provided to mathematical statistics, differential geometry and the information geometry of spaces of probability density functions.

This volume contains the papers presented at the International Workshop “Inf- mation Fusion and Geographical Information Systems” (IF&GIS’07) held in St. Petersburg, Russia, 2007. Research in the Geosciences field interprets the concept of Information Fusion as a synonym of an approach that permits research into all the problems and issues which program-makers and scientific researchers are faced with. Thus, topics that are to be covered during the workshop relate to issues such as harmonization, - tegration and information fusion. At the same time the spectrum of problems - der discussion exceeds the current bounds of developing GIS applications. This is a significant modern trend since GIS technology is more often used as an interface in support and decision making systems. As a result, it is difficult to consider Geoinformation Science without considering related scientific directions such as Ontology, Artificial Intelligent Systems and Situation Management.

This volume discusses the prospects and evolution of informatics (or computer science), which has become the operating system of our world, and is today seen as the science of the information society. Its artifacts change the world and its methods have an impact on how we think about and perceive the world. Classical computer science is built on the notion of an “abstract” machine, which can be instantiated by software to any concrete problem-solving machine, changing its behavior in response to external and internal states, allowing for self-reflective and “intelligent” behavior. However, current phenomena such as the Web, cyber physical systems or the Internet of Things show us that we might already have gone beyond this idea, exemplifying a metamorphosis from a stand-alone calculator to the global operating system of our society.

Informatics Education – Supporting Computational Thinking contains papers presented at the Third International Conference on Informatics in Secondary Schools – Evolution and Perspective, ISSEP 2008, held in July 2008 in Torun, Poland.
