Harmonic Analysis and Rational Approximation : Their Rôles in Signals, Control and Dynamical Systems
This book - an outgrowth of a topical summer school - sets out to introduce non-specialists from physics and engineering to the basic mathematical concepts of approximation and Fourier theory. After a general introduction, Part II of this volume contains basic material on the complex and harmonic analysis underlying the further developments presented. Part III deals with the essentials of approximation theory while Part IV completes the foundations by a tour of probability theory. Part V reviews some major applications in signal and control theory. In Part VI mathematical aspects of dynamical systems theory are discussed. Part VII, finally, is devoted to a modern approach to two physics problems: turbulence and the control and noise analysis in gravitational waves measurements.
Happiness—Concept, Measurement and Promotion
This book defines happiness intuitively and explores several common conceptual mistakes with regard to happiness. It then moves on to address topical issues including, but not limited to, whether money can buy you happiness, why happiness is ultimately the only thing of intrinsic value, and the various factors important for happiness. It also presents a more reliable and interpersonally comparable method for measuring happiness and discusses twelve factors, from A to L, that are crucial for individual happiness: attitude, balance, confidence, dignity, engagement, family/friends, gratitude, health, ideals, joyfulness, kindness and love.

Handbook of Normal Frames and Coordinates
This book provides the first comprehensive and complete overview on results and methods concerning normal frames and coordinates in differential geometry, with emphasis on vector and differentiable bundles. The book can be used as a reference manual, for reviewing the existing results and as an introduction to some new ideas and developments. Virtually all essential results and methods concerning normal frames and coordinates are presented, most of them with full proofs, in some cases using new approaches. All classical results are expanded and generalized in various directions. For example, normal frames and coordinates are defined and investigated for different kinds of derivations, in particular for (possibly linear) connections on manifolds, with or without torsion, in vector bundles and on differentiable bundles; they are explored also for (possibly parallel) transports along paths in vector bundles. Theorems of existence, uniqueness and, possibly, holonomicity of normal frames and coordinates are proved; mostly, the proofs are constructive and some of their parts can be used independently for other tasks.
