Graph-theoretic concepts in computer science ; 33rd International workshop, WG 2007, Dornburg, Germany, June 21-23, 2007, Revised Papers

The WG conference traditionally aims at uniting theory and practice by demonstrating how graph-theoretic concepts can be applied to various areas in computer science, or by extracting new problems from applications. The goal is to present recent researchresults and to identify and exploredirections of future research.

Graph-theoretic concepts in computer science ; 30th International workshop, WG 2004, Bad Honnef, Germany, June 21-23, 2004, Revised Papers

During its 30-year existence, the International Workshop on Graph-Theoretic Concepts in Computer Science has become a distinguished and high-quality computer science event. The workshop aims at uniting theory and practice by demonstrating how graph-theoretic concepts can successfully be applied to v- ious areas of computer science and by exposing new theories emerging from applications. In this way, WG provides a common ground for the exchange of information among people dealing with several graph problems and working in various disciplines. Thereby, the workshop contributes to forming an interdis- plinary research community. The original idea of the Workshop on Graph-Theoretic Concepts in C- puter Science was ingenuity in all theoretical aspects and applications of graph concepts, wherever applied. Within the last ten years, the development has strengthened in particular the topic of structural graph properties in relation to computational complexity.

Graphic design : Learn it, do it

An introduction to the fundamentals of graphic design and the Adobe Creative Cloud applications used to put these concepts into practice. This book is intended for production-oriented audiences, those interested in the what, why and how of graphic design. The "what" is effective graphic design, a visual solution created using the design principles that stands out in a crowded marketplace. This discussion includes color theory, typography and page layout. Focus on the "why" of design begins with the reasons why we communicate.

Good pharmacovigilance practice (GVP) : Focus on risk mangement plan (RMP)

Pharmacovigilance which is the science and activities relating to the detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse drug reactions or any other possible drug related problems and Risk Management Strategies which provides a structured and coherent approach to identifying, assessing and managing risk and builds in a process for regularly updating and reviewing the assessment based on new developments or actions taken, conference provides the foundation for strong strategic planning and practical decision-making in pharmacovigilance programs. Stakeholders from medicines research, global regulation, and healthcare will join together to analyse the challenges for safety and pharmacovigilance efforts in this uncertain environment and examine effective strategies for addressing gaps and needs.

Good laboratory practice for nonclinical studies

The GLP regulations have been enacted since 1978 and are currently under a proposed FDA amendment to revise terminology and accommodate other changes relating to advances in technology related to the industry. This book provides a unique opportunity to access interpretation of the 21CFR58 regulatory requirements from leading industry experts with a vast knowledge and expertise in their fields. The approach used takes the regulations, provides interpretations and references to examples and regulatory actions. Data integrity and the use of electronic systems in compliance with 21CFR11 Electronic Records: Electronic Signatures are also discussed.

Good laboratory practice : The why and the how

The GLP regulations have developed from rules on how to exactly document the planning, conduct and reporting of toxicity studies to a quality system for the management of a multitude of study types, from the simple determination of a physical/chemical parameter to the most complex field studies or ecotoxicology studies. At the same time the term “Good Laboratory Practice” has become somewhat of a slogan with the aim to characterise any reliably conducted laboratory work.

Glycobiology and Medicine ; Proceedings of the 7th Jenner Glycobiology and Medicine Symposium.

The potential for glycobiology to improve the practice of medicine has been well recognised, which is why biannual meetings concerning the association have been taking place for the last 14 years. The science of glycobiology has matured rapidly, and with it the far reaching clinical implications are becoming understood. The next decade is going to see this final frontier of science conquered. The impact this understanding of glycobiology will have upon our practice of medicine is going to be exciting. The 7th Jenner Glycobiology and Medicine Symposium was designed to reflect these advances. All the major clinical areas were involved, with contributions from pivotal players in science and medicine.

Globalisation, Poverty and Conflict : A Critical 'Development' Reader

Is ‘development’ passé? Is it merely a by-product or a ‘trickle down’ effect of economic growth, spurred by globalisation? Will poverty simply diminish with increased global markets? This state-of-the-art critical ‘development’ reader deals with these and related questions. Globalisation, Poverty and Conflict examines the inter-relationships between globalisation, poverty and conflict. It complements current debates in the field of development studies and, in an era in which development fatigue seems to have become more profound than ever before, it brings the importance of development once again to the forefront. Achieving the Millennium Development Goals by 2015 is a concrete target which many governments have agreed to work towards.Whether these goals can be realised is another issue. Nonetheless, the Millennium Development Goals have brought more focused attention to development in the past few years and renewed debate about the relationships between the process of globalisation and widespread poverty and the emergence of violent conflicts. The authors in this edited volume discuss these inter-related and highly controversial topical elements of development in a number of chapters organised around three sets of issues: (1) globalisation, inequality and poverty; (2) governance, civil society and poverty; and (3) resource degradation, institutions and conflict. The contributions represent current thinking on (and practice of) development policy, poverty reduction, the need for multi-level democratic institutions, and the containing and prevention of conflicts. The authors confront the predominant mainstream ideas on ‘development’ and propose alternatives.

Global Product : Strategy, Product Lifecycle Management and the Billion Customer Question

In the early years of the 21st Century, as a result of many changes, it has become possible for the first time for tens of thousands of companies to offer manufactured products to customers across six continents. For many of these "global products", there are potentially more than a billion customers. In 2007, Wall Street hit new highs as the enormous opportunity for increased sales and profits became clear. However the new environment is not easy to manage and the risks are high. Meeting the various requirements of customers from a range of countries, choosing the most suitable locations for the different stages of development and manufacturing, deciding what can be global and what must be local, implementing suitable processes and systems, accommodating different national regulations, and efficiently dividing the workload between diverse sites are among the many challenges faced by providers of global products.

Geriatrics for Specialists

This book aims to be a single point of reference for advances in the care of geriatric populations across medical and surgical specialties. The aging population is a unique demographic with its own health challenges. Geriatricians are specifically trained to address these challenges but few medical students or residents enter geriatrics, even as the demand for geriatric expertise increases. The practices of many medical and surgical specialists are dominated by older patients who may themselves see many specialists but rarely visit geriatricians.
