Handbook of Normal Frames and Coordinates
This book provides the first comprehensive and complete overview on results and methods concerning normal frames and coordinates in differential geometry, with emphasis on vector and differentiable bundles. The book can be used as a reference manual, for reviewing the existing results and as an introduction to some new ideas and developments. Virtually all essential results and methods concerning normal frames and coordinates are presented, most of them with full proofs, in some cases using new approaches. All classical results are expanded and generalized in various directions. For example, normal frames and coordinates are defined and investigated for different kinds of derivations, in particular for (possibly linear) connections on manifolds, with or without torsion, in vector bundles and on differentiable bundles; they are explored also for (possibly parallel) transports along paths in vector bundles. Theorems of existence, uniqueness and, possibly, holonomicity of normal frames and coordinates are proved; mostly, the proofs are constructive and some of their parts can be used independently for other tasks.
Games Without Frontiers? : Socio-historical Perspectives at the Gaming/Gambling Intersection
This book focuses on how and why digital games and gambling are increasingly intertwined and asks “does this matter?” Looking at how “loot boxes” became the poster child for the convergence of gambling and gaming, Wardle traces how we got here. She argues that the intersection between gambling and gaming cultures has a long lineage, one that can be traced back throughout the 20th century but also incorporates more recent trends like the poker boom of the 1990s, the development of social media gambling products and the development of skin betting markets.
Fundamentals of biomechanics
The book presents a comprehensive review of the major concepts of biomechanics and summarizes them in nine principles of biomechanics. Throughout the text are numerous examples of applying these principles to the work of kinesiology professionals. Specific case studies are presented in four application chapters: physical education, coaching, strength and conditioning, and sports medicine.
Foundations of Sport-Related Brain Injuries
A major take-home point from this book should be the assumption that symptom resolution does not necessarily mean injury resolution. As can be seen by research focusing on global metabolic cascades and neural activity of the brain, long-standing dysfunctional pathways continue to exist for extended periods of time even after a minor concussion. Until we completely understand the consequences of short-term perturbations and long-term residual brain dysfunctions, concussions must be treated with respect and given a higher priority for continued research activity.
Football Traumatology : Current Concepts : From Prevention to Treatment
Lesions associated with football are on the increase and their typology has also changed over the years. Football, like many other sports, has undergone major changes: the increase in the intensity and speed of the game, the modern training methodologies, the technical and tactical innovations are all factors contributing to increased risks of traumatic injury. The footballers, the trainers, the sport's medical staff are asking for greater information and knowledge on the traumatic lesions associated with this sport. The primary role of those who are concerned with the health of footballers is to enforce preventive measures to reduce wherever possible the risks of trauma.
Flexibility : A concise guide to conditioning, performance enhancement, injury prevention, and rehabilitation
This groundbreaking book is a definitive guide to flexibility and revises the conceptual framework of the field. In Flexibility: A Concise Guide, the authors provide a fresh perspective on flexibility, one that challenges current thinking and professional practice, from the conceptual foundations of research to the practical applications of stretching techniques in a number of domains.
FitBuddy : An artificial intelligence powered personal trainer
FitBuddy App is a sports application that employs artificial intelligence in its job as a personal trainer that enables users to exercise anywhere with convenience, tremendous benefit, and high accuracy. The user can exercise with or without weights, in addition to cycling and running. The user must first provide the application with the personal data it has asked for in order to create an appropriate sports program for the user. After that, the user may explore the sports program's weeks and day's sections.
Feldman and Pike's vitamin D; Vol. 2 : Health, disease and therapeutics
Covers the evidence for new roles of vitamin D, ranging from organ transplantation to cancer, diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, and renal disease. The coverage is appropriately broad, drawing on aspects of internal medicine, pediatrics, nutrition, orthopedics, oncology, neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, and immunology, as well as, new areas for vitamin D including sports medicine, opthalmology, veterinary medicine and ICU care – including COVID-19. Clinical researchers will gain a strong understanding of the molecular basis for a particular disease and better understand future directions for research in this still-growing field.
Exercise-induced acute renal failure : Acute renal failure with severe loin pain and Patchy renal Ischemia after anaerobic exercise
Acute renal failure induced by rhabdomyolysis after strenuous, prolonged exercise such as marathon running or mountain climbing is a well-known medical phenomenon, but exercise-induced acute renal failure after short-term anaerobic exercise - for instance, short-distance track races - has been recognized only recently. This monograph provides in-depth information on exercise-induced acute renal failure after short-term anaerobic exercise, which causes severe pain in the loin and patchy renal ischemia with no sign of rhabdomyolysis. Half of the patients suffering from this condition experience renal hypouricemia, for which approximately 20% are treated with dialysis. This book includes characteristics of the disease, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis, and corresponding preventive measures. Important information on gene analysis and etiology is also included, creating a valuable resource for nephrologists as well as for emergency physicians and those in the field of sports medicine.
Essentials of Sports Nutrition and Supplements
Millions of consumers want to lose body fat, gain muscle mass, and/or improve exercise performance. In addition to an exercise program, they often look to sports supplements as ‘tools’ to help them reach their goals. This book, the culmination of years of work by the thought leaders in the sports nutrition field will help the consumer, student, scientist, and sports nutrition professional sift through the huge volume of information and come up with reasonable and scientifically-based ideas and conclusions about sports nutrition.
