Head and neck cancer is the sixth most common cancer worldwide. CT and MRI imaging are absolutely crucial to accurate diagnosis and staging, and radiologists have to be especially familiar with the anatomy of that region of the body. In addition, they must be highly proficient in interpreting radiographic images in order to judge the patterns of metastasis, response to treatment, and the signs and patterns of recurrence. This concise but detailed book describes the latest imaging modalities for all types of head and neck cancer diagnosis in light of recent technological advances. Featuring abundant high-quality images supplemented by advice from experts on the management of each cancer, it is a valuable resource for diagnostic and general radiologists, as well as all medical staff involved in the management of head and neck cancers.

Diabetes Mellitus & Recent developments

Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defect in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. Symptoms of marked hyperglycemia include polyuria, polydipsia, weight loss, sometimes with polyphagia, and blurred vision. Frequency of diabetic in the world About 1 in 11 adults worldwide now have diabetes mellitus, 90% of whom have type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Asia is a major area of the rapidly emerging T2DM global epidemic Classification Of Diabetic Mellitus. 1-Type 1 diabetes: which accounts for only5–10% of those with diabetes, results from a cellular-mediated autoimmune destruction of the cells of the pancreas. 2-Type 2 diabetes: which accounts for90 –95% of those with diabetes, result from insulin resistance. The chronic complications of diabetes mellitus affect many organ systems and are responsible for the majority of morbidity and mortality. Such as, retinopathy, diabetic foot, neuropathy, and nephropathy, sexual dysfunction, and skin changes.

Creativity and Innovation in the Music Industry

The book provides an explanation for the emergence of innovation and creativity in the music industry by retelling and interpreting its history, from Thomas Alva Edison’s invention of the phonograph in 1877 to the latest innovations such as MP3-files and iPods. The global nature of this history causes me to believe that this book is going to be of interest to an international readership as well. My hope is that this translation will be received with the same level of warmth and generosity that the publication of the German original enjoyed.

Coronal Mass Ejections

This volume offers a comprehensive and integrated overview of our present knowledge and understanding of Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) and their descendants, Interplanetary CMEs (ICMEs). It results from a series of workshops held between 2000 and 2004. An international team of about sixty experimenters involved e.g. in the SOHO, ULYSSES, VOYAGER, PIONEER, HELIOS, WIND, IMP, and ACE missions, ground observers, and theoreticians worked jointly on interpreting the observations and developing new models for CME initiations, development, and interplanetary propagation. The book provides researchers active in space physics with an overview of the current understanding of CMEs and ICMEs, and their effects in the heliosphere. It also provides the advanced graduate student with introductory material on this active field of research.

Common Eye Diseases and their Management

There have been significant advances in the diagnosis and management of eye disease since the last edition of Common Eye Diseases and their Management was published. The specialty has developed more subspecialties, and the referring doctor has to have a good knowledge of these in order to make appropriate referrals. An increased emphasis on screening has made it necessary for the primary care doctor to have a basic knowledge of eye diseases. This applies particularly to glaucoma and diabetic eye disease. The management of eye conditions in the elderly is also an important and increasing primary care problem.

Characterisation in Federations : Six Countries Compared

In this work Dr. Taylor surveys the federal countries of the world and asks how they divide power among the constituent units of the federation. In so doing, he considers not only the formal constitutional text, but, far more importantly, the case law that has grown up around it as the Courts develop approaches to interpreting provisions for the distribution of powers. This enables conclusions to be drawn about the effectiveness of various structural and interpretative approaches to the distribution of powers within federations.

Cell Cycle Regulation

The cell cycle is tightly regulated on many different levels to ensure properly controlled proliferation. Deregulation of cell cycle regulation is a hallmark of cancer. In this book, many aspects of cell cycle regulation are discussed, which include G1, S, M phase control, ubiquitin-mediated degradation, DNA damage response, mitotic spindle checkpoint, the centrosome cycle, Retinoblastoma protein family, the Myc oncogene, and mouse models for tumor suppressors, cyclin-dependent kinases, and meiosis. These chapters written by experts provide an updated view on how the cell cycle is regulated in vivo and about the involvement of cell cycle regulators in cancer.

Calcium Signalling and Disease : Molecular Pathology of Calcium

This topic is a new entry in the area of cellular calcium signaling: yet, it now spans the entire area, with discoveries that cover both genetic and acquired pathologies, even offering glimpses in the direction of therapy.Cellular calcium homeostasis, and thus calcium signalling, is mainly regulated by membrane intrinsic proteins and calcium sensor proteins. Both classes may be involved in pathological processes that affect both human and animals, ranging from common and important diseases (e.g. migraine, diabetes, epilepsia, manic depression, infertility, various types of cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, muscular dystrophy) to rare genetic conditions (e.g., a number of genetic heart conditions, autoimmune retinopathies, night blindness, hereditary amyloid polyneuropathy, malignant hyperthermia, cerebellar ataxia, atherothrombotic disease).
