Spatial Analysis and GeoComputation : Selected Essays
Spatial analysis has been in existence for a long time. More recently, GeoComputation - a new computationally intensive paradigm - is changing research practice in spatial analysis. Coupled with improvements in data availability and increases in computer memory and speed, novel perspectives and techniques from the field of computational intelligence give rise to new types of geocomputational concepts, models, and techniques in spatial analysis. This volume contains selected essays of Manfred M. Fischer in the field of spatial analysis from the perspective of GeoComputation. The volume is structured in four parts. The first sets the context by dealing with broad issues related with spatial analysis and the role of GIS. The second relates to computational intelligence technologies such as neural networks that provide a new style of performing spatial modelling and analysis tasks in geography and other spatial sciences. The third part provides the theoretical framework required and displays the efficient use of various adaptive pattern classifiers in remote sensing environments. The final part outlines the latest, most significant developments in neural spatial interaction modelling.
Solid self micro emulsifying drug delivery system
Explores the formulation of Solid Self-Microemulsifying Drug Delivery Systems (SSMEDDS) as a strategy to enhance oral bioavailability and reduce GI side effects of NSAIDs. Tiaprofenic acid, a poorly soluble acidic NSAID, was selected as a model drug to develop and evaluate the delivery system. Excipients were selected using Hansen solubility parameters. While castor oil showed optimal solubility, it was excluded due to known irritancy. Olive oil was chosen for its adequate solubilization capacity and documented gastric protective effects. The optimized SMEDDS formulation was solidified via adsorption on Aerosil.

Software is present in every aspect of our lives, pushing us inevitably towards a world of distributed computing systems. Agent concepts hold great promise for responding to the new realities of large-scale distributed systems. Multi-agent systems (MASs) and their underlying theories provide a more natural support for ensuring important agent properties, such as autonomy, environment heterogeneity, organization and openness. Nevertheless, a software agent is an inherently more complex abstraction, posing new challenges to software engineering. Without adequate development te- niques and methods, MASs will not be sufficiently dependable, thus making their wide adoption by the industry more difficult. The dependability of a computing system is its ability to deliver a service that can be justifiably trusted.
Smart medical laboratory
"One of the most popular terms associated with advanced technological development in any field today, is the word ‘smart’. With the great development that has affected neuronal networks and artificial intelligence in recent years and the revolution in computer vision and detection technologies. And advances in modern technologies such as laptop and mobile with most people and its widespread availability and the Internet has become almost everywhere. It became necessary to modernize the medical laboratories and integrate medicine with technology. Therefore, we proposed this project to start developing disease diagnosis techniques through magnetic resonance imaging, cancerous block detection and CBC blood analysis through computer vision algorithms and artificial intelligence techniques, and this leads to reduced human intervention in these tasks and reduces errors that can occur when diagnosing.

Program Chairs’ Message th The 4 International Service Availability Symposium (ISAS 2007) continued with the tradition of its predecessors by bringing together researchers and practitioners from both academia and industry to address the problems of service availability. The unique characteristic of a strong academic and industrial partnership was vividly - flected in this year’s event, from the Organizing Committee to the contributions and the participants. Recognizing the value of broadening the scope of ISAS 2007, we included new topic areas that cover model-driven design and human factors. We received a total of 25 submissions, each of which was thoroughly reviewed by at least three members of the Program Committee. Due to the limited time allocated for the symposium, many worthwhile manuscripts unfortunately did not make it into the final program.
Self-Reported Population Health : An International Perspective based on EQ-5D
The EQ-5D instrument, as a standardized, cross-culturally validated measure of self-assessed health has a hugely important role in understanding population health within and across countries. Over the past two decades a wealth of international population health survey data have been accumulated by the EuroQol Group from research conducted in many countries across four continents. One of the success factors of the EQ-5D instruments has been the easy availability of national or international sets of EQ-5D data, as well as clear explanations and guidance for users. There is an unmet need to produce a comprehensive book that captures up-to-date and expanded information of EQ-5D self-reported health and index values. EQ-5D population norms and cross-country analyses are provided from representative national surveys of 20 countries and additional regional surveys.

Quantitative Analysis in Nuclear Medicine Imaging
This book provides a review of image analysis techniques as they are applied in the field of diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine. Driven in part by the remarkable sophistication of nuclear medicine instrumentation and - crease in computing power and its ready and inexpensive availability, this is a relatively new yet rapidly expanding field. Production Planning in Production Networks : Models for Medium and Short-term Planning
Production Planning in Production Networks addresses production planning problems in distributed manufacturing networks from strategic, tactical, organisational and operative perspectives. New methodologies for capacity negotiation, allocation and workload assignment in production networks are presented. Specifically, three main problems are focussed on: how to negotiate production capacity availability in the long-term; how to allocate production capacity in medium-term planning; and, how to assign workloads in the short-term. The proposed approaches are based on negotiation algorithms in multi-agent networks. These approaches are compared with classical centralised approaches using discrete event simulation methodologies. Benchmark analysis is provided to understand the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed approaches.
