Antibiotics Simplified
Designed to bridge knowledge gained in basic sciences courses with clinical practice in infectious diseases. This practical text reviews basic microbiology and how to approach the pharmacotherapy of a patient with a presumed infection. It also contains concise Drug Class Reviews with an explanation of the characteristics of various classes of antibacterial drugs and antifungal drugs.
Antibacterial effects of Algae
An alarm increase in the rate of emerging of resistance bacteria have been causing a great public concern worldwide. This problem of increasing resistance has necessitated the search for safe and effective factors that may be used to treat persistent bacterial infections or modify the currently available antibiotic. This study deals with the antimicrobial potential assessment of ulva flexuosa , ulva flexuosa was collected from at MAZAR ELKHODER. Crude organic extracts were prepared using methanolic and chloroformic extract and tested against 6 indicator microorganisms using the disk diffusion method and also applied against biofilm ( dental plaque).

ANTS – The International Workshop on Ant Colony Optimization and Swarm Intelligence is now at its ?fth edition. The series started in 1998 with the - ganization of ANTS 1998. At that time the goal was to gather in a common meeting those researchers interested in ant colony optimization: more than 50 researchers from around the world joined for the ?rst time in Brussels, Belgium, to discuss ant colony optimization and swarm intelligence related research. A selectionofthebest paperspresentedatthe workshopwaspublished asa special issue of the Future Generation Computer Systems journal (Vol. 16, No. 8, 2000). Two years later, ANTS 2000, organized again in Brussels, attracted more than 70 participants. The 41 extended abstracts presented as talks or posters at the workshopwere collected in a booklet distributed to participants, and a selection of the best papers was published as a special section of the IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation (Vol. 6, No. 4, 2002).

Analysis of Low-Speed Unsteady Airfoil Flows
This book provides an introduction to unsteady aerodynamics with emphasis on the analysis and computation of inviscid and viscous two-dimensional flows over airfoils at low speeds. It begins with a discussion of the physics of unsteady flows and an explanation of lift and thrust generation, airfoil flutter, gust response and dynamic stall. This is followed by an exposition of the four major calculation methods in currents use, namely inviscid-panel, boundary-layer, viscous-inviscid interaction and Navier-Stokes methods. Undergraduate and graduate students, teachers, scientists and engineers concerned with aeronautical, hydronautical and mechanical engineering problems will gain understanding of the physics of unsteady low-speed flows and an ability to analyze these flows with modern computational methods.
Analog-baseband architectures and circuits For multistandard and lowvoltage wireless transceivers
"Analog-Baseband Architectures and Circuits reviews the fundamentals and studies the state-of-the-art multistandard transceivers before describing novel architectural and circuit techniques for implementing multimode and wideband (tens of MHz) baseband analog front-ends under low-voltage constraints. Techniques developed on architecture level for efficient system-in-package (SiP) integration, testability and multi-standardability; and on circuit level for reducing the required supply voltage, power and area are generally applicable for most wireless systems, and are somewhat independent to technology scaling. Experimental 1-V baseband building blocks (i.e., double-quadrature-downconversion filter, programmable-gain amplifier and dc-offset canceler) and a 1-V fully-integrated receiver analog-baseband chain for IEEE 802.11a/b/g WLAN validate the techniques. The implementations are all in standard-VTH CMOS process, and no voltage boosting is required at any node." An introduction to description logics
Designed so that domain knowledge can be described and so that computers can reason about this knowledge. DLs have recently gained increased importance since they form the logical basis of widely used ontology languages, in particular the web ontology language OWL. Written by four renowned experts, this is the first textbook on description logics. It is suitable for self-study by graduates and as the basis for a university course. Starting from a basic DL, the book introduces the reader to their syntax, semantics, reasoning problems and model theory and discusses the computational complexity of these reasoning problems and algorithms to solve them.

Algorithms for Sensor and Ad Hoc Networks : Advanced Lectures
Thousands of mini computers (comparable to a stick of chewing gum in size), equipped with sensors, are deployed in some terrain or other. After activation the sensors form a self-organized network and provide data, for example about a forthcoming earthquake. The trend towards wireless communication increasingly affects electronic devices in almost every sphere of life. Conventional wireless networks rely on infrastructure such as base stations; mobile devices interact with these base stations in a client/server fashion. In contrast, current research is focusing on networks that are completely unstructured, but are nevertheless able to communicate (via several hops) with each other, despite the low coverage of their antennas. Such systems are called sensor or ad hoc networks, depending on the point of view and the application. Wireless ad hoc and sensor networks have gained an incredible research momentum. Computer scientists and engineers of all flavors are embracing the area. Sensor networks have been adopted by researchers in many fields: from hardware technology to operating systems, from antenna design to databases, from information theory to networking, from graph theory to computational geometry.
Algal Chemical Ecology
This is the first ever book devoted entirely to the chemical ecology of algae. Algae from both marine and freshwater habitats are covered, as are macroalgae (seaweeds) and microalgae (including phytoplankton). While its main emphasis is on the ecological rather than chemical aspects of the field, the book also includes a unique introductory chapter intended as a primer on algal natural products chemistry for ecologists. It elucidates the roles of chemical defenses in various regions and habitats, of DMSP, oxidative burst responses, and herbivore offense. Topics such as algal sensory chemical ecology and defenses against ultraviolet radiation are also treated, and an introduction to the chemical ecology of phytoplankton is provided.

Challenging Charcot’s hypothesis that inflammatory response is the primary contributor to demyelination, Dr. Rodriguez and colleagues take a fresh, bold look at the causes and possible treatments of MS.Assuming oligodendrocyte injury as a prerequisite to MS, the authors explore viruses, toxins and genetic defects as possible culprits. They present novel methods to interrupt and reverse demyelination. This book examines the correlation between axonal loss and clinical deficits, including the implied role of the CD8+ T cell and perforin. It assesses proteases, specifically, kallikrein 6, which are strongly associated with active demyelination. By directing natural autoantibodies against oligodendrocytes that demonstrate remyelination in animal models, the authors envision clinical trials for remyelination enhancement.

In recent years meshless/meshfree methods have gained a considerable attention in engineering and applied mathematics. The variety of problems that are now being addressed by these techniques continues to expand and the quality of the results obtained demonstrates the effectiveness of many of the methods currently available. Optical fiber communication industry has gained unprecedented opportunities and achieved rapid progress in recent years.
