Cancerimmunotherapies : Solid tumors and hematologic malignancies
Presents the clinical scope of cancer immunotherapeutic agents for solid tumors and Hematologic malignancies, elaborates on the scientific details of their modes of action, and presents the impact of these agents on oncology, patients and the broader healthcare system. At present, cancer immunotherapies fall broadly into three categories: immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), adoptive T cell therapies, and cancer vaccines which have distinct mechanisms of action. Immune checkpoint inhibitors rely upon disrupting tumor antigen recognition as self by the immune system through inhibition of checkpoint molecules. Adoptive T cell therapies involve the engineering of T cells ex vivo to target and destroy tumor cells. The first part of this book will provide an overview of the discovery and mechanistic details of the technology. The second part will be devoted to elaborating on the clinical outcomes, successes and limitations for specific tumor subtypes, which includes both solid tumors and hematologic malignances for both pediatric and adult populations.
Cancer in adolescents and young adults
The chapters highlight the initial efforts of this Committee in addressing the scope of the problem of adolescent and young adult underrepresentation in clinical trials and offer evidence that such adiscrepancy may partially explain outcome differences.In addition, these chapters present information about biologic differences between specific cancer subtypes most common in younger children and those exhibited by the same cancers in adolescents and young adults, and offer plausible explanations for outcome differences as well as potential treatment strategies.

Durant les deux premières journées, toutes les étapes importantes de la prise en charge des cancers du sein ont été déclinées. L’analyse du risque de voir survenir un cancer du sein a été explorée dans sa diversité suivie par les résultats du dépistage organisé et les problèmes du diagnostic. Les traitements locorégionaux ont précédé les traitements adjuvants sans oublier les patientes dont la tumeur présentait une hyperexpression de HER2. Une session a été consacrée aux cancers métastatiques et une autre aux personnes âgées. Comme à chaque cours, nous nous sommes penchés sur l’avenir en dissertant sur la classification moléculaire et sur le passé avec la très belle conférence du Pr David Khayat sur le bilan du Plan Cancer.
Cancer : Cell Structures, Carcinogens and Genomic Instability
Tumors can be induced by a variety of physical and chemical carcinogens. The resulting tumor cells are usually abnormal in their morphology and behavior and transmit their abnormalities to their daughter tumor cells. Most theories of the pathogenesis of tumors suggest that carcinogens in some way cause alterations either of the genomes or of inheritable patterns of gene expression in normal cells, which then cause morphological and behavioral changes. This volume presents a collection of articles aimed at the question by what genetic or epigenetic mechanisms carcinogens can cause morphological abnormalities of tumor cells. It includes reviews of cellular targets of known carcinogens, and presents varying viewpoints of how morphological abnormalities and the actions of carcinogens might be related.
Calibration Techniques in Nyquist A/D Converters
It is shown that in order to achieve high speed and high accuracy at high power efficiency, calibration is required. Calibration reduces the overall power consumption by using the available digital processing capability to relax the demands on critical power hungry analog components. Several calibration techniques are analyzed. The calibration techniques presented in this book are applicable to other analog-to-digital systems, such as those applied in integrated receivers. Further refinements will allow using analog components with less accuracy, which will then be compensated by digital signal processing. The presented methods allow implementing this without introducing a speed or power penalty.
Calibrating the Cosmos : How Cosmology Explains Our Big Bang Universe
Calibrating the Cosmos describes hard science, but is gently written. It explains in clear, non-mathematical language the measurements and the interpretation of the resulting data that have led to the current understanding of the origin, evolution and properties of our expanding Big Bang universe. Many people have a sketchy idea of the work of cosmologists, but Professor Levin’s experience in teaching both scientific and liberal arts students has enabled him to impart much of our current thinking without resorting to difficult mathematics. Theoretical concepts are emphasized, in particular the symmetries of homogeneity and isotropy enjoyed by our universe on the largest scales, how these symmetries lead to only one quantity being needed to describe the growth of the universe from its infancy to the present time, and how the so-called parameters of the universe are the ingredients used to construct the model universes to which ours – the real thing – is compared.
Calculus and mechanics on two-point homogenous riemannian spaces
The present monograph gives a short and concise introduction to classical and quantum mechanics on two-point homogenous Riemannian spaces, with empahsis on spaces with constant curvature. Chapter 1-4 provide the basic notations from differential geometry for studying two-body dynamics in these spaces. Chapter 5 deals with the problem of finding explicitly invariant expressions for the two-body quantum Hamiltonian. Chapter 6 addresses one-body problems in a central potential. Chapter 7 studies the classical counterpart of the quantum system of chapter 5. Chapter 8 investigates some applications in the quantum realm, namely for the coulomb and oscillator potentials.

Its objective is to present various numerical methods for solving certain mathematical problems on the computer that cannot be treated in a simpler way. Classical issues such as the computation of zeros or integrals of continuous functions, the solving of linear systems, the approximation of functions by polynomials and the construction of precise approximations for solutions of differential equations are addressed. All algorithms are presented in the programming languages MATLAB and Octave, whose main commands and instructions are introduced gradually, aiming in particular at their compatibility in both languages.
Caesarean section delivery
It is the most common surgical operation performed in the world. Since first described 400 years ago, surgical rates continue to rise globally. Caesarean rates are now reported from South American countries of over 50% and rates of over 32% are currently being reported from the United States, China, England and Scotland.
