Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defect in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. Symptoms of marked hyperglycemia include polyuria, polydipsia, weight loss, sometimes with polyphagia, and blurred vision.
