Pathway to diagnosis and management of toothaches : A general dentist’s perspective
A concise guide to the clinical examination and diagnosis of dental pain. It is focused on determining the root cause of pain to prevent an erroneous finding based on inadequate information provided by the patient or flawed interpretation of diagnostic testing. Readers will find guidance on anamnesis, clinical exams, and assessment of pain specific components of the mouth as well as on the progression of pulp diseases including the normal pulp, the inflamed pulp, necrobiosis and aerodontalgia. Information is provided on fractured tooth as well as on diagnostic tests for dental pain.
Partial Covers, Reducts and Decision Rules in Rough Sets : Theory and Applications
Devoted to theoretical and experimental study of partial reducts and partial decision rules on the basis of the study of partial covers. The use of partial (approximate) reducts and decision rules instead of exact ones allows us to obtain more compact description of knowledge contained in decision tables, and to design more precise classifiers. Algorithms for construction of partial reducts and partial decision rules, bounds on minimal complexity of partial reducts and decision rules, and algorithms for construction of the set of all partial reducts and the set of all irreducible partial decision rules are considered. The book includes a discussion on the results of numerous experiments with randomly generated and real-life decision tables. These results show that partial reducts and decision rules can be used in data mining and knowledge discovery both for knowledge representation and for prediction.

Welcome to the proceedings of the 2nd International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing and Applications (ISPA2004) which was held in Hong Kong, China, 13–15 December, 2004. With the advance of computer networks and hardware technology, parallel and distributed processing has become a key technology which plays an imp- tant part in determining future research and development activities in many academic and industrial branches. It provides a means to solve computati- ally intensive problems by improving processing speed. It is also the only - able approach to building highly reliable and inherently distributed applications. ISPA2004 provided a forum for scientists and engineers in academia and indsttry to exchange and discuss their experiences, new ideas, research results, and applications about all aspects of parallel and distributed computing. There was a very large number of paper submissions (361) from 26 countries and regions, including not only Asia and the Pacific, but also Europe and North America. All submissions were reviewed by at least three program or technical committee members or external reviewers. It was extremely di?cult to select the presentations for the conference because there were so many excellent and interesting submissions.

Oral health-related quality of life : Concept, assessment, and importance
Oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) has important implications for the clinical practice of dentistry and dental research. OHRQoL is an integral part of general health and well-being and is recognized by the WHO as an important segment of the Global Oral Health Program (WHO, 2003). The specific aims of this project include: defining OHRQoL, explaining the importance of OHRQoL, determining the tools utilized to assess the quality of life and evaluate the correlation between oral and systemic conditions and quality of life.

Obstructions in Security-Aware Business Processes : Analysis, Detection, and Handling
This book explores the dilemma-like stalemate between security and regulatory compliance in business processes on the one hand and business continuity and governance on the other. The growing number of regulations, e.g., on information security, data protection, or privacy, implemented in increasingly digitized businesses can have an obstructive effect on the automated execution of business processes. Such security-related obstructions can particularly occur when an access control-based implementation of regulations blocks the execution of business processes. By handling obstructions, security in business processes is supposed to be improved. For this, the book presents a framework that allows the comprehensive analysis, detection, and handling of obstructions in a security-sensitive way. Thereby, methods based on common organizational security policies, process models, and logs are proposed. The Petri net-based modeling and related semantic and language-based research, as well as the analysis of event data and machine learning methods finally lead to the development of algorithms and experiments that can detect and resolve obstructions and are reproducible with the provided software.
