Advances in Image and Video Technology ; 1st Pacific Rim Symposium, PSIVT 2006, Hsinchu, Taiwan, December 10-13, 2006, Proceedings
The conference of the 1st IEEE Pacisc-Rim Symposium on Image and Video Technology (PSIVT 2006) was held at Hsinchu, Taiwan, Republic of China, on December 11–13, 2006. This volume contains papers selected for presentation at this conference. The aim of this conference was to bring together theoretical advances and practical implementations contributing to, or being involved in, image and video technology. PSIVT 2006 featured a comprehensive program including tutorials, keynote and invited talks, oral paper presentations, and posters. We received 450 s- missions from 22 countries and accepted 141 papers among those (i.e., de?ning an acceptance rate of 31.3%). The intention was to establish PSIVT as a t- quality series of symposia. Decisions were discult sometimes, but we hope that the ?nal result is acceptable to all involved.

Advances in Human-Robot Interaction
The book addresses key issues of human-robot interaction concerned with perception, modelling, control, planning and cognition, covering a wide spectrum of applications. Advances in Discrete Differential Geometry
On a newly emerging field of discrete differential geometry and an excellent way to access this exciting area. It surveys the fascinating connections between discrete models in differential geometry and complex analysis, integrable systems and applications in computer graphics. The authors take a closer look at discrete models in differential geometry and dynamical systems. Their curves are polygonal, surfaces are made from triangles and quadrilaterals, and time is discrete. Nevertheless, the difference between the corresponding smooth curves, surfaces and classical dynamical systems with continuous time can hardly be seen. This is the paradigm of structure-preserving discretizations. Current advances in this field are stimulated to a large extent by its relevance for computer graphics and mathematical physics.

Advances in Design and Specification Languages for Embedded Systems is the latest contribution to the Chip Design Languages series and it consists of selected papers presented at the Forum on Specifications and Design Languages (FDL'06), which took place in September 2006 at Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany. FDL, an ECSI conference, is the premier European forum to present research results, to exchange experiences, and to learn about new trends in the application of specification and design languages as well as of associated design and modelling methods and tools for integrated circuits, embedded systems, and heterogeneous systems. Advances in decision making under risk and uncertainty
Whether we like it or not we all feel that the world is uncertain. From choosing a new technology to selecting a job, we rarely know in advance what outcome will result from our decisions. Unfortunately, the standard theory of choice under uncertainty developed in the early forties and fifties turns out to be too rigid to take many tricky issues of choice under uncertainty into account. The good news is that we have now moved away from the early descriptively inadequate modeling of behavior. This book brings the reader into contact with the accomplished progress in individual decision making through the most recent contributions to uncertainty modeling and behavioral decision making. It also introduces the reader into the many subtle issues to be resolved for rational choice under uncertainty.
