Integrated Circuit and System Design. Power and Timing Modeling, Optimization and Simulation ; Vol. 3728 ; 15th International Workshop, PATMOS 2005, Leuven, Belgium, September 21-23, 2005, Proceedings
Welcome to the proceedings of PATMOS 2005, the 15th in a series of international workshops.PATMOS2005wasorganizedbyIMECwithtechnicalco-sponsorshipfrom the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. Over the years, PATMOS has evolved into an important European event, where - searchers from both industry and academia discuss and investigate the emerging ch- lenges in future and contemporary applications, design methodologies, and tools - quired for the developmentof upcominggenerationsof integrated circuits and systems. The technical program of PATMOS 2005 contained state-of-the-art technical contri- tions, three invited talks, a special session on hearing-aid design, and an embedded - torial. The technical program focused on timing, performance and power consumption, as well as architectural aspects with particular emphasis on modeling, design, char- terization, analysis and optimization in the nanometer era. The Technical Program Committee, with the assistance of additional expert revi- ers, selected the 74 papers to be presented at PATMOS. The papers were divided into 11 technical sessions and 3 poster sessions. As is always the case with the PATMOS workshops, the review process was anonymous, full papers were required, and several reviews were carried out per paper. Beyond the presentations of the papers, the PATMOS technical program was - riched by a series of speeches offered by world class experts, on important emerging research issues of industrial relevance. Prof. Jan Rabaey, Berkeley, USA, gave a talk on “Traveling the Wild Frontier of Ulta Low-Power Design”, Dr. Sung Bae Park, S- sung, gave a presentation on “DVL (Deep Low Voltage): Circuits and Devices”, Prof.

Constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Integer Programming and Combinatorial Optimization, IPCO 2007, held in Ithaca, NY, USA, in June 2007. This book presents 36 revised full papers that were reviewed and selected from over 120 submissions.

Since its start in 1990, the IPCO conference series (held under the auspices of theMathematicalProgrammingSociety)hasbecomeanimportantforumforthe presentation of recent results in Integer Programming and Combinatorial Op- mization. This volume compiles the papers presented at IPCO XI, the eleventh conference in this series, held June 8–10, 2005, at the Technische Universit¨ at Berlin. The high interest in this conference series is evident in the large number of submissions. For IPCO XI, 119 extended abstracts of up to 10 pages were submitted. During its meeting on January 29–30, 2005, the Program Committee carefully selected 34 contributions for presentation in non-parallel sessions at the conference. The ?nal choices were not easy at all, since, due to the limited number of time slots, many very good papers could not be accepted. During the selection process the contributions were refereed according to the standards of refereed conferences. As a result of this procedure, you have in your hands a volume that contains papers describing high-quality research e?orts. The page limit for contributions to this proceedings volume was set to 15. You may ?nd full versions of the papers in scienti?c journals in the near future. We thank all the authors who submitted papers. Furthermore, the Program Committee is indebted to the many reviewers who, with their speci?c expertise, helped a lot in making the decisions.
Insects and Ecosystem Function
In the past two decades, an increasing number of ecologists have started to investigate the importance of biodiversity for ecological processes such as energy flow and nutrient cycling, often referred to as 'ecosystem functioning'. Insects are a dominant component of biodiversity in terrestrial ecosystems and play a key role in mediating the relationship between plants and ecosystem processes. This volume is the first to summarize their effects on ecosystem functioning, focusing mainly, but not exclusively, on herbivorous insects. Renowned authors with extensive experience in the field of plant-insect interactions, contribute to the volume using examples from their own work. In addition to providing concise reviews of the field, this volume discusses in detail the advantages and disadvantages of various techniques of manipulating insect herbivory. Thus, the text provides both a theoretical basis as well as practical advice for future manipulative studies of biodiversity-ecosystem functioning.
Insect Conservation and Islands
A series of original papers and reviews dealing with the peculiarities of island insects and their conservation in many parts of the world. Innovative Internet Community Systems ; Vol. 3908 ; 5th International Workshop, IICS 2005, Paris, France, June 20-22, 2005. Revised Papers
Traditionally, there are topics discussed in three main aspects. All of them must be considered in a united manner in order to investigate and understand the emergence and evolution of communities in the Internet: knowledge about networking, content and text processing as well as theory. The goal of the I2CS workshop is to bring researchers from both industry and academic fields together to discuss current progress and future developments in these areas and to eliminate the gap between theory and application. At this point, we want to express immense gratitude to all the authors of the submitted papers and to the members of the international Program Committee for their contribution to the success of the event and a program of high quality. In a peer-to-peer review process, 17 papers were selected out of 27 submissions.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed postproceedings of the 4th International Workshop on Innovative Internet Community Systems, IICS 2004, held in Guadalajara, Mexico, in June 2004. The 25 revised full papers presented together with 2 invited papers have been carefully reviewed. They focus mainly on system-oriented problems, text processing, and theoretical foundations of distributed and Internet systems. They also deal with speed and quality-of-service problems of Internet protocols, aspects of cooperation and collaboration in Internet systems, as well as agent and text-processing-based methods. In addition, 9 papers stem from two mini-workshops, one on computational epidemiology and the other on optimization of urban traffic systems.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning, EiTEL 2006, held in Crete, Greece in October 2006. The 32 revised full papers, 13 revised short papers and 31 poster papers presented together with 2 keynote talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 192 submissions. The conference provides a unique forum for all research related to technology-enhanced learning, as well as its interactions with knowledge management, business processes and work environments. Traditionally, the DDSS conferences aim to be a platform for both starting and experienced researchers who focus on the development and application of computer support in urban planning and architectural design. Innovation Matters : Competition Policy for the High-Technology Economy
A proposal for moving from price-centric to innovation-centric competition policy, reviewing theory and available evidence on economic incentives for innovation. Competition policy and antitrust enforcement have traditionally focused on prices rather than innovation. Economic theory shows the ways that price competition benefits consumers, and courts, antitrust agencies, and economists have developed tools for the quantitative evaluation of price impacts. Antitrust law does not preclude interventions to encourage innovation, but over time the interpretation of the laws has raised obstacles to enforcement policies for innovation. In this book, economist Richard Gilbert proposes a shift from price-centric to innovation-centric competition policy. Antitrust enforcement should be concerned with protecting incentives for innovation and preserving opportunities for dynamic, rather than static, competition. In a high-technology economy, Gilbert argues, innovation matters.
Inner Speech - L2 : Thinking Words in a Second Language
The purpose of this book is to explore "inner speech" and its connections to second language (L2) learning. reviews the extant literature on L1-L2 inner speech in its attempt to offer a coherent and comprehensive account of the phenomenon. The book draws mainly from Vygotskyan sociocultural theory for insights into the nature of L2 inner speech and the processes that engender it and characterize its development. The pedagogical implications of recognizing the crucial role inner speech plays in L2 learning are also addressed.
Innate and Adaptive Immunity in the Tumor Microenvironment
Recent studies, indicate that the tumor microenvironment is unique in providing both supportive and inhibitory factors that determine the fate of the tumor and its host. Accordingly, microenvironmental immunity that operates inside and around a tumor plays a crucial role in cancer development and progression. The aim of the present volume is to compile reviews on innate and adaptive immune responses at the tumor microenvironment with emphasis on positive and negative outcomes that affect the progression of the disease. These reviews have been solicited from experts in the field who published original research studies focusing on these issues.
