Dialogue as a Means of Collective Communication
In the book, readers are introduced to five sections: Section I examines the historical and cultural perspectives of conversation. This examination helps to create a foundation for a deeper study of the emergent and salient aspects of conversation as it relates to cultural creativity and human systems design. Sections II offers the reader an examination of dialogue through different philosophical and theoretical perspectives as well as methodological ideas related to conversation. Section III explores different modalities of conversation and the application of design conversation within and across various types of design settings and human experiences. Section IV examines the field of practice as related to use of different forms of conversation.
Dialogic Education and Technology : Expanding the Space of Learning
Dialogic Education and Technology is about using new technology to draw people into the kind of dialogues which take them beyond themselves into learning, thinking and creativity. The program of research reported in this book reveals key characteristics of learning dialogues and demonstrates ways in which computers and networks can deepen, enrich and expand such dialogues. A dialogic perspective is developed drawing upon recent work in communications theory, psychology, computer science and philosophy. The central argument of the book is that there is a convergence between this dialogic perspective in education and the affordances of new information and communications technology. A genuinely dialogic perspective is relatively new to the field of educational technology and there is a considerable amount of interest in this topic amongst researchers who wish to see what extra insights, if any, a dialogical approach can offer them.
Diagnosis and Fault-Tolerant Control
The book presents effective model-based analysis and design methods for fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control. Architectural and structural models are used to analyse the propagation of the fault throughout the process, to test the fault detectability and to find the redundancies in the process that can be used to ensure fault tolerance. Design methods for diagnostic systems and fault-tolerant controllers are presented for processes that are described by analytical models, by discrete-event models or that can be dealt with as quantised systems. Five case studies on pilot processes show the applicability of the presented methods. The theoretical results are illustrated by two running examples used throughout the book.
Development and In-vitro Dissolution Test of Pilocarpine PVA : Hydrogel Lenses
Due to high water content of hydrogel (wetting) and due to extended drug release comparing to ophthalmic solution and higher transparency comparing to ophthalmic ointment, soft contact lenses were found to elongate contact time with the eye and use it for long time without causing hypoxia or needing multiple dosing per a day. The objective of the study was to design, fabricate, and investigate the effectiveness of PVA hydrogel with DMSO soft contact lens in releasing the model drug, pilocarpine.
Development and characterization of a dispersion-encoded method for low-coherence interferometry
This book discusses an extension to low-coherence interferometry by dispersion-encoding. The approach is theoretically designed and implemented for applications such as surface profilometry, polymeric cross-linking estimation and the determination of thin-film layer thicknesses. During a characterization, it was shown that an axial measurement range of 79.91 µm with an axial resolution of 0.1 nm is achievable. Simultaneously, profiles of up to 1.5 mm in length were obtained in a scan-free manner. This marked a significant improvement in relation to the state-of-the-art in terms of dynamic range.
