Arrhythmogenic RV cardiomyopathy / dysplasia : Recent advances
This book covers all aspects (biological, pathological, genetic, clinical and therapeutical) of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy/dysplasia, a recent cardiomyopathy which represents a very high risk of sudden death in the young and in athletes. The monograph presents the results of 5-year research program on ARVC/D supported by grants of both the European Commission and the NIH, which enabled the discovery of seven disease-causing genes, thus opening new avenues for the early identification of affected patients and for sudden death prevention.
Aritmetica, crittografia e codici = Arithmetic, cryptography and codes
The basic techniques of algebra and number theory useful in recent applications to cryptography and codes are developed, with the aim of being elementary and self-sufficient. The emphasis is on computational problems. This part of the volume can be useful as a textbook for a first course in algebra for mathematicians, computer scientists or engineers. Important applications of algebra and geometry to cryptography and codes are then illustrated. Both, cryptography and codes have significant applications in daily life which are illustrated here. Cryptography is developed in detail in much of its classic and current aspects, and both private and public key cryptography are developed. Cryptography with the use of elliptic curves on finite fields is also illustrated. A chapter introducing the subject is dedicated to linear codes.
ARIS design platform : Advanced process modelling and administration
ARIS is ranked as the leading Business Process Modelling tool in the Gartner Quadrant for Business Process Analysis and Optimization. The ARIS Design Platform is being used as a business process management (BPM) tool for projects in BPM, quality management, business analysis and design, software development, implementation of service-oriented architectures and so forth. Following on from Rob Davis’ successful introductory text, ARIS Design Platform: Getting Started with BPM, this new book covers in detail some of the more advanced concepts of using ARIS Business Architect in the new ARIS 7 Design Platform. Written in a reader-friendly style, it contains detailed explanations of key concepts combined with numerous examples, hints and tips gained from many years of practical experience of using ARIS.
Argumentation in multi-agent systems ; Vol. 4049 ; 2nd International Workshop, ArgMAS 2005, Utrecht, Netherlands, July 26, 2005, revised selected and invited papers
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the Second International Workshop on Argumentation in Multi-Agent Systems held in Utrecht, Netherlands in July 2005 as an associated event of AAMAS 2005, the main international conference on autonomous agents and multi-agent systems. The 10 revised full papers presented together with an invited paper were carefully reviewed and selected from 17 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on foundations, negotiation, protocols, deliberation and coalition formation, and consensus formation.
Argumentation in multi-agent systems ; Vol. 3366 ; 1st International Workshop, ArgMAS 2004, New York, NY, USA, July 19, 2004, revised selected and invited papers
The theory of argumentation is a rich, interdisciplinary area of research lying across philosophy, communication studies, linguistics, and psychology (at least). Its techniques and results have found a wide range of applications in both t- oretical and practical branches of arti'cial intelligence and computer science. Several theories of argumentation with various semantics have been proposed in the literature. Multi-agent systems theory has picked up argument-inspired approaches and speci'cally argumentation-theoretic results from many di'erent areas. The community of researchers in argumentation and multi-agent systems is currently presented with a unique opportunity to integrate the various und- standings of argument into a coherent and core part of the functioning of - tonomouscompu...
Arguing on the Toulmin model : New essays in argument analysis and evaluation
In The Uses of Argument Stephen Toulmin proposed a new model for the layout of arguments, with six components: claim, data, warrant, qualifier, rebuttal, backing. Toulmin’s model has been appropriated, adapted and extended by researchers in the fields of speech communications, philosophy and artificial intelligence. The volume aims to bring together the best contemporary reflection in these fields on the Toulmin model and its current appropriation.
Architectures of festival in early modern Europe : Fashioning and re-fashioning urban and courtly space
Draws on up-to-date research by a Europe-wide group of academic scholars and museum and gallery curators to provide a unique, intellectually-stimulating and beautifully-illustrated account of temporary architecture created for festivals of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, together with permanent architecture pressed into service for festival occasions across major European locations including Italian, French, Austrian, Scottish and German.
Architecture of advanced numerical analysis systems: designing a scientific computing system using ocaml
Applies the functional OCaml programming language to numerical or computational weighted data science, engineering, and scientific applications. This book is based on the authors' first-hand experience building and maintaining Owl, an OCaml-based numerical computing library. You'll first learn the various components in a modern numerical computation library. Then, you will learn how these components are designed and built up and how to optimize their performance. After reading and using this book, you'll have the knowledge required to design and build real-world complex systems that effectively leverage the advantages of the OCaml functional programming language.
Architecture for residential care and ageing communities : Spaces for dwelling and healthcare
A guide to the planning, architecture, and design of schools that are healthy, stimulating, and will conserve energy and resources. Written with the needs of architects, construction professionals, educators, and school administration in mind, the book provides a road map for sustainable planning, design, construction, and operations.
Architecture constructed : Notes on a discipline
In this book, acclaimed architectural theorist Mark Jarzombek examines this tension head-on, and uses it to rethink the nature of the history of architecture. He reveals architecture to be a troubled, interconnected realm, incomplete and unstable, where labor, craft, and occupation are the ‘invisible’ complements to the work of the architect.
Architecture and the novel under the Italian fascist regime
The book is divided into seven chapters, which in turn analyze the interconnections between the novel and architecture in theory and in practice. The first six chapters cover debates on State art, on the novel and on architecture, as well as their historical development and their unfolding in key journals of the period. The last chapter offers a detailed analysis of some important novels and buildings, which have in practice realized some of the key principles articulated in the theoretical disputes.
Architecture and the modern hospital : Nosokomeion to Hygeia
Explores the rapid evolution of hospital design in the twentieth century, analysing the ways in which architects and other specialists reimagined the modern hospital. It examines how the vast expansion of medical institutions over the course of the century was enabled by new approaches to architectural design and it highlights the emerging political conviction that physical health would become the cornerstone of human welfare.
Architecture and the housing question
Examines how the design and provision of housing around the world have become central both to competing political projects and to the architecture profession. How have architects acting as housing experts helped alleviate or enforce class, race, and gender inequality? What are the disciplinary implications of taking on shelter for the multitude as an architectural assignment and responsibility? The book features essays in the historiography of architecture and the housing question, and a collection of historical case studies from Belgium, China, France, Ghana, the Netherlands, Kenya, the Soviet Union, Turkey, and the United States.
