Physics of Surfaces and Interfaces
This graduate-level textbook covers the major developments in surface sciences of recent decades, from experimental tricks and basic techniques to the latest experimental methods and theoretical understanding. It is unique in its attempt to treat the physics of surfaces, thin films and interfaces, surface chemistry, thermodynamics, statistical physics and the physics of the solid/electrolyte interface in an integral manner, rather than in separate compartments. Perspectives on Nuclear Medicine for Molecular Diagnosis and Integrated Therapy
This work is devoted to understanding the recent advances in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging technologies along with their application to integrated medical therapy and future drug development. This anthology is based on the international symposium in 2015 entitled “Perspective on Nuclear Medicine for Molecular Diagnosis and Integrated Therapy. “The symposium provided an opportunity to exchange ideas on how to promote nuclear medicine technology and how to extend the technology to medical therapy and drug development, and was also a good opportunity to discuss the future perspective of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging by worldwide leaders in the field. Molecular imaging technologies have been rapidly developed worldwide in recent years. Among those developments, nuclear medicine has come to play an important role in quantitative analysis of biological process in vivo as well as in wide clinical use. With the current progress of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging, this modality has been applied for treatment monitoring and predicting its outcome with the use of optimal imaging biomarkers and suitable quantitative analysis.
Perspectives in Conceptual Modeling ; ER 2005 Workshop AOIS, BP-UML, CoMoGIS, eCOMO, and QoIS, Klagenfurt, Austria, October 24-28, 2005, Proceedings
The objective of these workshops was to extend the spectrum of the main conference by giving participants an opportunity to present and discuss emerging hot topics related to conceptual modeling and to add new perspectives to this key mechanism for understanding and representing organizations, including the new “virtual” e-environments and the information systems that support them. To meet this objective, we selected 5 workshops: – AOIS 2005: 7th International Bi-conference Workshop on Agent-Oriented Information Systems – BP-UML 2005: 1st International Workshop on Best Practices of UML – CoMoGIS 2005: 2nd International Workshop on Conceptual Modeling for Geographic Information Systems – eCOMO 2005: 6th International Workshop on Conceptual Modeling - proaches for E-business – QoIS 2005: 1st International Workshop on Quality of Information Systems These 5 workshops attracted 18, 27, 31, 9, and 17 papers, respectively. Following the ER workshop philosophy, program committees selected contributions on the basis of strong peer reviews in order to maintain a high standard for accepted papers.
Performance Evaluation and Planning Methods for the Next Generation Internet
GERAD :The Center was created in 1980 by a small group of professors and researchers of HEC Montreal, GERAD's activities achieved sufficient scope to justify its conversion in June 1988 into a Joint Research Centre of HEC Montreal, the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal and McGill University. In 1996, the U- versite du Quebec a Montreal joined these three institutions. GERAD has fifty members (professors), more than twenty research associates and post doctoral students and more than two hundreds master and Ph.D. students. Its mission is defined around the following four complementarily objectives: • The original and expert contribution to all research fields in GERAD's area of expertise; • The dissemination of research results in the best scientific outlets as well as in the society in general; • The training of graduate students and post doctoral researchers; • The contribution to the economic community by solving important problems and providing transferable tools.The wide range of topics covered in this book is a witness to the diversity of problems that have to be faced if we want to design the Next Generation IP Networks to meet their expected performance. This is a rich field where optimization techniques can provide significant gains

IbPRIA 2005 (Iberian Conference on Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis) was the second of a series of conferences jointly organized every two years by the Portuguese and Spanish Associations for Pattern Recognition (APRP, AERFAI), with the support of the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR). This year, IbPRIA was hosted by the Institute for Systems and Robotics and the Geo-systems Center of the Instituto Superior Tecn ´ ico and it was held in Estoril, Por- gal. It provided the opportunity to bring together researchers from all over the world to discuss some of the most recent advances in pattern recognition and all areas of video, image and signal processing. There was a very positive response to the Call for Papers for IbPRIA 2005. We - ceived 292 full papers from 38 countries and 170 were accepted for presentation at the conference. The high quality of the scienti?c program of IbPRIA 2005 was due ?rst to the authors who submitted excellent contributions and second to the dedicated colla- ration of the international Program Committee and the other researchers who reviewed the papers. Each paper was reviewed by two reviewers, in a blind process. We would like to thank all the authors for submitting their contributions and for sharing their - search activities. We are particularly indebted to the Program Committee members and to all the reviewers for their precious evaluations, which permitted us to set up this publication.

Passive and Active Network Measurement ; 6th International Workshop, PAM 2005, Boston, MA, USA, March 31 - April 1, 2005, Proceedings
Welcome to the 6th International Workshop on Passive and Active Measurement, held in Boston, Massuchusetts. PAM 2005 was organized by Boston University, with ?nancial support from Endace Measurement Systems and Intel. PAM continues to grow and mature as a venue for research in all aspects of Internet measurement. This trend is being driven by increasing interest and activity in the ?eld of Internet measurement. To accommodate the increasing interest in PAM, this year the workshop added a Steering Committee, whose members will rotate, to provide continuity and oversight of the PAM workshop series. PAM plays a special role inthemeasurementcommunity. Itemphasizespr- matic, relevant research in the area of network and Internet measurement. Its focus re?ects the increasing understanding that measurement is critical to e?- tive engineering of the Internet’s components. This is clearly a valuable role, as evidenced by the yearly increases in the number of submissions, interest in, and attendance at PAM. PAM received 84 submissions this year. Each paper was reviewed by three or four Program Committee (PC) members during the ?rst round. Papers that received con?icting scores were further reviewed by additional PC members or external reviewers (typically two). After all reviews were received, each paper with con?icting scores was discussed extensively by its reviewers, until a c- sensus was reached. The PC placed particular emphasis on selecting papers that were fresh and exciting research contributions. Also, strong preference was given to papers that included validation results based on real measurements.
Participatory Research and Planning in Practice

Oyooni: a deep learning-based arabic assistant for visually impaired people
Since the beginning of time, visually impaired people have been relying on other senses to interpret their surroundings and function properly, using mobility tools and white canes to guide them. About a decade ago, their quality of life was leveled up by the advances in deep learning and computer vision that were able to achieve state-of-the-art results to assist blind people in daily tasks. Unfortunately, these progresses are very limited in Arabic language. Hence, this project presents “Oyooni” (Arabic for “My Eyes”), a voice-powered Arabic assistant, that introduces several contributions to the Arabic language community, and showcases four deep learning models trained to be used by Arabic-speaking users, in the hopes of helping visually challenged people detect Syrian banknotes, caption scenes in Arabic, detect color and recognize Arabic written text.
