Homo Oeconomicus : The Economic Model of Behaviour and Its Applications in Economics and Other Social Sciences
The economic model of behaviour is fundamental not only in economic theory, but also in modern approaches of other social sciences, above all in political science and law. This book provides a comprehensive treatise of the general model, its philosophical and methodological foundations and its applications in different fields. In addition to the basic model, extensions to its assumptions are examined to account for complex applications like low-cost situations with moral behaviour. Finally, the book takes a broader perspective by evaluating the impact of the model on economic policy and on the development of the field of social science as a whole, such as the competition between individualistic and collectivist approaches.
History Education and Conflict Transformation : Social Psychological Theories, History Teaching and Reconciliation
This volume discusses the effects, models and implications of history teaching in relation to conflict transformation and reconciliation from a social-psychological perspective. Bringing together a mix of established and young researchers and academics, from the fields of psychology, education, and history, the book provides an in-depth exploration of the role of historical narratives, history teaching, history textbooks and the work of civil society organizations in post-conflict societies undergoing reconciliation processes, and reflects on the state of the art at both the international and regional level. Our idea was generated as a result of the technical and technological shift in almost all industries and its endorsements in reducing costs, increasing efficiency, and serving a wider range of targeted beneficiaries. Three words this business was built on: TRUST, VALUE, and ETHICS. These words are far more endorsed than what the project might explain in terms of business methods, implementations, and processes, but the real aim whether internally or externally is to share the responsibility of improving our industries with creative, competitive ,and relabel business models that could put companies on the wheel of quality improvement and potentially wider the range of the jobs market.
High-Velocity Clouds
On the occasion of the retirement of Ulrich Schwarz, a symposium was held in Groningen in May of 1996, celebrating his contributions to the study of the int- stellar medium, including his work on the high-velocity clouds. The coming together of many specialists in the latter ?eld prompted the idea of compiling a book c- taining their contributions, and summarizing the status of our understanding of the high-velocity cloud phenomenon. This seemed especially worthwhile at the time, since many exciting developments were taking place. After the discovery of some H i clouds with high velocities, about 40 years ago, the subject had been dominated by 21-cm observations of H i emission. Starting in the mid-1980s much progress was being made because of the availability of new instruments, such as large ground-based optical telescopes and UV observatories in space. The connections between the work on high-velocity clouds and other studies of the properties of the (hot) interstellar medium also became clearer.

High-performance Packet Switching Architectures
Internet traffic is increasing at a rate of at least 200% per year. The world’s largest Internet Service Provider has recently stated that it expects traffic capacity on its regional trunks to grow to a 1-10 petabit range over the next four to five years. Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), long-haul fiber-optic links and high-capacity all-optical circuit switches are now being employed at the Internet core to process such massive traffic, consequently creating a demand for novel high-performance packet switching technologies (IP routers, ATM switches, and Ethernet Switches) which feed the optical core.

This is the joint post-proceedings of the 6th International Symposium on High Performance Computing (ISHPC-VI) and the First International Workshop on Advanced Low Power Systems 2006 (ALPS2006). The post-proceedings also contain the papers presented at the Second HPF International Workshop: - periences and Progress (HiWEP2005) and the Workshop on Applications for PetaFLOPS Computing (APC2005), which are workshops of ISHPC-VI. ISHPC-VI, HiWEP2005 and APC2005 were held in Nara, Japan during September 7–9, 2005. Fifty-eight papers from 11 countries were submitted to ISHPC-VI. After the reviews of the submitted papers, the ISHPC-VI Program Committee selected 15 regular (12-page) papers for oral presentation. In ad- tion, several other papers with favorable reviews were recommended for poster presentation, and 14 short (8-page) papers were also selected.
Higher Education and Graduate Employment in Europe : Results from Graduates Surveys from Twelve Countries
The book indicates a noteworthy variety among economically advanced countries in the competences fostered by Higher Education and the emphasis placed either on laying a broad basis of knowledge or direct preparation for professional tasks. While universities in some countries are strongly involved in ensuring a rapid transition from study to employment, in other countries a long period after graduation is widespread for the search of a suitable career. Graduates from some countries appreciate their study experiences though they criticize a weak preparation for their subsequent assignments, while others less satisfied with higher education in their retrospective view note a satisfying preparation for the world of work. Study often turns out useful to lead to challenging tasks even though remuneration and status remain below expectations.

High performance concrete optimal composition design
Presents experimental and theoretical results allowing production of special high-strength rapid hardening concrete and fiber reinforced concrete. It describes a method for effective proportioning of high-strength fast-setting concrete and fiber reinforced concrete with high dynamic strength as well as selecting proper technological parameters, methodology for design of reinforced concrete structures using such concrete. Particular attention is paid to ensuring the early strengthening of concrete within 24 hours after casting and to constructing structures with limited energy resources at the site.

High energy density laboratory astrophysics
During the past several years, research teams around the world have developed astrophysics-relevant utilizing high energy-density facilities such as intense lasers and z-pinches. Research is underway in many areas, such as compressible hydrodynamic mixing, strong shock phenomena, radiation flow, radiative shocks and jets, complex opacities, equations o fstat, and relativistic plasmas. Beyond this current research and the papers it is producing, plans are being made for the application, to astrophysics-relevant research, of the 2 MJ National Ignition Facility (NIF) laser at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory; the 600 kj Ligne d'Intergration Laser (LIL) and the 2 MJ Laser Megajoule (LMJ) in Bordeaux, France; petawatt-range lasers now under construction around the world; and current and future Z pinches.
Hierarchical Bayesian Optimization Algorithm : Toward a New Generation of Evolutionary Algorithms
This book provides a framework for the design of competent optimization techniques by combining advanced evolutionary algorithms with state-of-the-art machine learning techniques. The book focuses on two algorithms that replace traditional variation operators of evolutionary algorithms by learning and sampling Bayesian networks: the Bayesian optimization algorithm (BOA) and the hierarchical BOA (hBOA). BOA and hBOA are theoretically and empirically shown to provide robust and scalable solution for broad classes of nearly decomposable and hierarchical problems. A theoretical model is developed that estimates the scalability and adequate parameter settings for BOA and hBOA. The performance of BOA and hBOA is analyzed on a number of artificial problems of bounded difficulty designed to test BOA and hBOA on the boundary of their design envelope.
