Fuzzy Modeling with Spatial Information for Geographic Problems

This book focuses on research advances in approaches for incorporating explicit handling of uncertainty, especially by fuzzy sets, to address geographic problems. It has two aims: to stimulate research in the theory and application of fuzzy sets to spatial information management and geographic problem solving; and to highlight advances that have matured so much that geoscientists, computer scientists, geographers, et al. use fuzzy modeling. The book includes examples of the use of fuzzy sets in representational issues such as terrain features, landscape morphology, spatial extents and approaches for spatial interpolation, plus applications using fuzzy sets covering data mining, spatial decision making, ecological simulation, and reliability in GIS.

Furnishing - Zoning

Deals with the relationships between building typology and building structure, and between spatial composition and interior design. The relationship between the briefing and the catalogue of requirements, and between shell construction and fit-out, is elucidated. Connections at walls, ceilings and floors are explained in detail and illustrated with case studies of selected projects. In addition, the authors demonstrate how a well-designed sequence of spaces can create added value by means, for example, of the choice of materials and the lighting scheme, or adaptability to accommodate new functions.

Funds, Flows and Time : An Alternative Approach to the Microeconomic Analysis of Productive Activities

The subject of this book is production, which is an important and extensive field in economic science. In fact, production, distribution and consump tion were long considered the three federated kingdoms which together formed the great empire of the economy. According to other slightly dif ferent traditions, production also held pride of place, specifically as a basic link in the long chain of social reproduction. Today, whatever the theoreti cal approach, production is a fundamental requirement for human survival. This was not, however, always the case. For much of the history of man kind hominids were hunter, scavenger and gatherers, with very little con trol over their environment, and extremely little in the way of artefacts with which to work. However, since the Neolithic revolution, productive processes have constituted an essential mechanism, providing human soci ety with goods and services to satisfy its needs and cravings.

Fundamentals of Space Medicine

Topics discussed in this book include: adaptation of sensory-motor, cardio-vascular, bone, and muscle systems to the microgravity of spaceflight; psychological and sociological issues of living in a confined, isolated, and stressful environment; operational space medicine, such as crew selection, training and in-flight health monitoring, countermeasures and support; results of space biology experiments on individual cells, plants, and animal models; and the impact of long-duration missions such as the human mission to Mars. The author also provides a detailed description of how to fly a space experiment, based on his own experience with research projects conducted onboard Salyut-7, Mir, Spacelab, and the Space Shuttle. Now is the time to look at the future of human spaceflight and what comes next. The future human exploration of Mars captures the imagination of both the public and the scientific community. Many physiological, psychological, operational, and scientific issues need to be solved before the first crew can explore the enigmatic Red Planet. This book also identifies the showstoppers that can be foreseen and what we need to learn to fully understand the implications and risks of such a mission.

Fundamentals of Robotic Mechanical Systems : Theory, Methods, and Algorithms

Fundamentals of Robotic Mechanical Systems, Third Edition addresses robots at large - such as multi-fingered hands, walking machines, flight simulators, and machine tools - that rely on mechanical systems to perform their tasks. The author establishes the foundations on which the design, control, and implementation of the underlying mechanical subsystems are based. The treatment assumes familiarity with some calculus, linear algebra, and elementary mechanics; however, the elements of rigid-body mechanics and linear transformations are reviewed in the first chapters, making the presentation self-contained.

Fundamentals of airplane flight mechanics

Airplane flight mechanics is the application of Newton's laws to the study of airplane trajectories (performance), stability, and aerodynamic control. This text is limited to flight in a vertical plane and is divided into two parts. The first part, trajectory analysis, is concerned primarily with the derivation of analytical solutions of trajectory problems associated with the sizing of commercial jets, that is, take-off, climb, cruise, descent, and landing, including trajectory optimization. The second part, stability and control, is further classified as static or dynamic. On each iteration of airplane sizing, the center of gravity is placed so that the airplane is statically stable. Dynamic stability and control is included to study the response of an airplane to control and gust inputs, which is needed for the design of automatic flight control systems. Algorithms are presented for estimating lift, drag, pitching moment, and stability derivatives.

Frontiers in Chemical Sensors : Novel Principles and Techniques

With their similarity to the organs of the most advanced creatures that inhabit the Earth, sensors are regarded as being the “senses of electronics”: arti?cial eyes and ears that are capable of seeing and hearing beyond the range of - man perception; electronic noses and tongues that can recognise odours and ?avours without a lifetime training; touch that is able not only to feel the texture and temperature of the materials but even to discern their chemical compo- tion. Among the world of chemical sensors, optical devices (sometimes termed “optodes”, from the Greek “the optical way”) have reached a prominent place in those areas where the features of light and of the light-matter interaction show their advantage: contactless or long-distance interrogation, detection sensitivity, analyte selectivity, absence of electrical interference or risks, and lack of analyte consumption,
