Indicators of Childrens Well-Being : Understanding Their Role, Usage and Policy Influence
This book contains a series of articles that represent a broad range of viewpoints about how the use of social indicators affects child and family policy. The book discusses the use of indicators as an effective tool to change policy. A distinguished, international group of researchers and policymakers provide insights into the past, current and future use of good information to develop and change policy that improves the well-being of children and youth.
Indicator Systems for Sustainable Innovation
In the recent past, environmental innovations have led to a considerable reduction of many pollutants; however, further innovation is required to tackle remaining pollution sources. This work analyses the significance and the effects of framework conditions on innovation activities that contribute to the realisation of a sustainable development. The book links the experiences of different research projects with the aim to develop a system of indicators to evaluate sustainable effects of (environmental) innovations. A comprehensive framework for an indicator system is established that allows to include different environmental innovation fields such as process innovations in the steel production, substitution of dangerous chemicals, organisational innovations in the field of waste disposal or sustainable water management.

Index and Stability in Bimatrix Games : A Geometric-Combinatorial Approach
The contribution of this thesis can be divided into two parts. The first part concerns methods and techniques. By introducing a new geometriccombinatorial construction for bimatrix games, this thesis gives a new, intuitive re-interpretation of the index. This re-interpretation is to a large extent self-contained and does not require a background in algebraic topology. The second part of this thesis concerns the relationship between the index and strategic properties. In this context, the thesis provides two new results, both of which are obtained by means of the new construction and are explained in further detail below. The first result shows that, in non-degenerate bimatrix games, the index can fully be described by a simple strategic property.

Independent Component Analysis and Blind Signal Separation ; 6th International Conference, ICA 2006, Charleston, SC, USA, March 5-8, 2006, Proceedings
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Independent Component Analysis and Blind Source Separation, ICA 2006, held in Charleston, SC, USA, in March 2006. The 120 revised papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 183 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on algorithms and architectures, applications, medical applications, speech and signal processing, theory, and visual and sensory processing.
Indefinite Linear Algebra and Applications
This book is dedicated to relatively recent results in linear algebra with indefinite inner product. It also includes applications to differential and difference equations with symmetries, matrix polynomials and Riccati equations. These applications have been developed in the last fifty years, and all of them are based on linear algebra in spaces with indefinite inner product. The latter forms a new more or less independent branch of linear algebra and we gave it the name of indefinite linear algebra. This new subject in linear algebra is presented following the lines and principles of a standard linear algebra course. This book has the structure of a graduate text in which chapters of advanced linear algebra form the core. This together with the many significant applications and accessible style will make it widely useful for engineers, scientists and mathematicians alike.
Increasing the security and reliability of e-health system using blockchain technology
The Blockchain technology is the buzzword of the year, and as this new technology slowly matured, it seems clear that from banking to supply chain logistics, it is ready for disruption. And in healthcare in particular, there is a massive opportunity for blockchain revolution to disrupt and lead the digital transformation. From medical records to pharmaceutical supply chains, to smart contracts for payment distribution, there are a plenty of methods to leverage this technology. Thus it has reached a great boom in the health sector, due to its importance to overcome interoperability and security challenges of health records systems in e-health.
Inconsistency tolerance
Inconsistency arises in many areas in advanced computing. Often inconsistency is unwanted, for example in the specification for a plan or in sensor fusion in robotics; however, sometimes inconsistency is useful. Whether inconsistency is unwanted or useful, there is a need to develop tolerance to inconsistency in application technologies such as databases, knowledge bases, and software systems. To address this situation, inconsistency tolerance is being built on foundational technologies for identifying and analyzing inconsistency in information, for representing and reasoning with inconsistent information, for resolving inconsistent information, and for merging inconsistent information. The idea for this book arose out of a Dagstuhl Seminar on the topic held in summer 2003. The nine chapters in this first book devoted to the subject of inconsistency tolerance were carefully invited and anonymously reviewed. The book provides an exciting introduction to this new field.
Income Smoothing Practices and Its Impact on Companies Earnings Per Share
At the end of the 1990s and the beginning of 21st century, the world has witnessed a series of corporate accounting scandals across the United States and Europe. Examples include Enron, Health South, Parmalat, Tyco, Worldcom and Xerox. After those, corporate accounting scandals have come over; earnings management has been a great and consistent concern among parctitioners and regulators and has received considerable attention in the accounting literatures
Income Elasticity and Economic Development : Methods and Applications
Income Elasticity and Economic Development: Methods and Applications is mainly concerned with methods of estimating income elasticity. This field is connected with economic development that can be achieved by reducing income inequality. This is highly relevant in today's world, where the gap between rich and poor is widening with the growth of economic development. Income Elasticity and Economic Development: Methods and Applications provides a good example in showing how to calculate income elasticity, using a number of methods from widely available grouped data. Some of the techniques presented here can be used in a wide range of policy areas in all developed, developing and under-developed countries. Policy analysts, economists, business analysts and market researchers will find this book very useful.

This book is designed as an international anthology on the broader subject of inclusion, education, social justice and translanguaging. Prefaced by Ofelia García, the volume unites conceptional and empirical contributions focusing on various actors within educational institutions, from early childhood to secondary education and teacher training, while offering insights into multiple European and North-American educational systems.
Inclusion and Psychological Intervention in Schools : A Critical Autoethnography
This book consists of a number of case studies about interventions in schools to promote the inclusion of pupils referred to a local authority Educational Psychology Service (EPS) in the north of England. The aim is to provide accounts which do not shirk from describing ‘failures’ as well as ‘successes’ and which reflect the general ‘messiness’ of this kind of work. They are written as ‘stories’ from the point of view of an educational psychologist who regards himself as a critical reflective practitioner whose professional practice is grounded in a democratic, inclusive philosophy.
Incisional Hernia
Surgeons need to be aware of all the different repairing techniques, in order to make an elective choice and to keep side effects and recidives under control. Surgeons, surgical residents, and medical students will find this volume very useful in their daily practice.
In vivo Models of HIV Disease and Control
An AIDS vaccine is still elusive and HIV treatment continues to develop multidrug resistance at alarming rates. Because of the similarities between HIV and immune deficiency infections in a variety of animals, it is only natural that scientists use these animals as models to study pathogenesis, treatment, vaccine development and many other aspects of HIV. Part of the series Infectious Agents and Pathogenesis, this volume reviews the immune deficiency virus in a variety of hosts. Pathogenesis, vaccine and drug development, epidemiology, and the natural history of the monkey, mouse, cat, cow, horse, and other animal viruses are detailed and compared to HIV. Also included are chapters on the history and future of animal models, as well as a chapter on ethical and safety considerations in using animal models for AIDS studies.
In Vivo Imaging of Cancer Therapy
In Vivo Imaging of Cancer Therapy addresses a variety of cutting-edge imaging techniques, including their use for best practice, and provides examples of results found in both pre-clinical and clinical studies. This comprehensive text covers the entire spectrum of in vivo imaging for oncology, including current approaches to detailed anatomic measurements, MR and optical spectroscopy, and molecular imaging techniques requiring exogenously administered imaging agents. The challenges and approaches to quantification are also outlined. The authors describe technologies and methods that are currently clinically available, and many that are still in a developmental stage or useful only in animal studies.
