Advances in Radiation Oncology in Lung Cancer
This volume is unique in being devoted solely to the radiation oncology of lung cancer, and will be of great value to all who are involved in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Both non-small cell and small cell lung cancer are considered in detail. Current state of the art treatment strategies and novel approaches that promise further improvements in outcome are explained and evaluated, with the aid of high-quality illustrations. Treatment-related toxicity is discussed, and further individual chapters focus on topics such as quality of life studies, prognostic factors and pitfalls in the design and analysis of clinical trials.

Advances in decision making under risk and uncertainty
Whether we like it or not we all feel that the world is uncertain. From choosing a new technology to selecting a job, we rarely know in advance what outcome will result from our decisions. Unfortunately, the standard theory of choice under uncertainty developed in the early forties and fifties turns out to be too rigid to take many tricky issues of choice under uncertainty into account. The good news is that we have now moved away from the early descriptively inadequate modeling of behavior. This book brings the reader into contact with the accomplished progress in individual decision making through the most recent contributions to uncertainty modeling and behavioral decision making. It also introduces the reader into the many subtle issues to be resolved for rational choice under uncertainty.
Advances in Control Theory and Applications
This volume is the outcome of the first CASY workshop on "Advances in Control Theory and Applications" which was held at University of Bologna on May 22-26, 2006. It consists of selected contributions by some of the invited speakers and contains recent results in control. The volume is intended for engineers, researchers, and students in control engineering.
Adult Orthodontics
An authoritative resource on the subject of adult orthodontics, marrying together clinical guidance with a thorough evaluation of the evidence base. Sample topics discussed within the book include: Context for adult orthodontics, including patient demographics and aetiologyTreatment planning considerations, including patient case profiles, initial outcomes and longer-term expectationsInterdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches, including the links between adult orthodontics and periodontics, prosthetics, and temporomandibular disorders
Adrenal Glands : Diagnostic Aspects and Surgical Therapy
Surgery of the Adrenal Glands is a comprehensive medical textbook that includes everything that a surgeon, but for all purposes any physicain or medical student, may want to find on adrenal surgery in a friendly, up to date, evidence based manner. 30 of the most renowned names in the field of adrenal surgery from the US and Europe draw on their experience in exploring diagnosis, indications for surgery, choice of operation and operative techniques, and surgical outcomes for every major adrenal condition. Over 200 exquisite illustrations, ranging from intraoperative photographs, line drawings, diagnostic images, pathology slides, tables and graphs are available to make each case discussed comprehensible and easy to follow. Traditional and novel therapeutic recommendations are introduced and the latest developments in minimal-access operative techniques are discussed and reviewed. Finally, the best approaches in dealing with challenging conditions such as adrenal incidentaloma, subclinical Cushing's syndrom, Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, Mineralcorticoid Express Syndrome, Extraadrenal and Malignant Pheochromocytoma are discussed.
Acquired Brain Injury : An Integrative Neuro-Rehabilitation Approach
Regardless of etiology, such as accident, tumor, stroke or assault, acquired brain injury presents numerous challenges for survivors, caregivers and treating professionals. Interdisciplinary and integrated evaluations, treatment, and management can mean the difference between successful recovery and unfortunate outcomes. The first book to present a comprehensive team approach to rehabilitation of ABI survivors, Acquired Brain Injury gives medical and clinical specialists a deeper understanding of not only each others' roles, but also their complementary functions.
Access to medicines and vaccines : Implementing flexibilities under intellectual property law
This book is the outcome of a Global Forum on Innovation, Intellectual Property and Access to Medicines held in December 2019 at the Max Plank Instititute in Munich, organised by the South Centre and the Max Plank Institute. The academics and experts from international organisations participating have contributed chapters to this book. The book is for policy makers (in Ministries of Health, Ministries of Trade, Ministries of Foreign Affairs, patent offices), but also relevant for academics (law, trade, public health), on the flexibilities available in the Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) of the World Trade Organization to promote access to medicines.
A practical guide on behaviour change support for self-managing chronic disease
Developed under the auspices of the Train4Health project, funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union, the book contains six chapters written by international contributors from different disciplines. Chapter one introduces the competencies necessary for delivering effective behavior change support, based on an established program of work, and related learning outcomes. The four following chapters describe how these competencies can be acquired, focusing on concepts and theories, assessing self-management behaviors, implementing change strategies and person-centered communication, using a practical approach.
3D imaging in endodontics : A new era in diagnosis and treatment
Full understanding of the role of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) in helping to solve many of the most challenging problems in endodontics. It will shorten the learning curve in application of this exciting imaging technology in a variety of contexts: difficult diagnostic cases, treatment planning, evaluation of internal tooth anatomy prior to root canal therapy, nonsurgical and surgical treatments, early detection and treatment of resorptive defects, and outcomes assessment. The ability to obtain an accurate 3D representation of a tooth and the surrounding structures by means of noninvasive CBCT imaging is changing the approach to clinical decision making in endodontics. Clinicians long accustomed to working in very small, three-dimensional spaces are no longer constrained by the limitations of two-dimensional imaging. The challenges of mastering the new technology can, however, be daunting. The detailed guidance contained in this book will help endodontists to take full advantage of the important benefits offered by CBCT.
