Machine Learning for Multimodal Interaction ; 5th International Workshop, MLMI 2008, Utrecht, The Netherlands, September 8-10, 2008. Proceedings
The 12 revised full papers and 15 revised poster papers presented together with 5 papers of a special session on user requirements and evaluation of multimodal meeting browsers/assistants were carefully reviewed and selected from 47 submissions. The papers cover a wide range of topics related to human-human communication modeling and processing, as well as to human-computer interaction, using several communication modalities. Special focus is given to the analysis of non-verbal communication cues and social signal processing, the analysis of communicative content, audio-visual scene analysis, speech processing, interactive systems and applications.

Le dépistage du cancer colorectal : État des lieux et perspectives = Colorectal cancer screening: Current status and perspectives
Prevention and screening are two major challenges for Public Health to reduce cancer mortality in our country. Screening for colorectal cancer is therefore quite exemplary. The number one cancer in both sexes in France, its incidence continues to increase due to the aging of the population. Its mortality remains high, in the order of fifty percent, despite the major therapeutic advances made in recent years. Preceded by a precancerous lesion - the adenomatous polyp, which can be removed by colonoscopy - colorectal cancer is also curable at the early stage. Finally, it can be the subject of a screening strategy, the impact of which has been demonstrated today on the reduction in mortality, when it is detected before any symptom by a simple test for blood in the stool followed by , in case of positivity, by a total colonoscopy. This book takes stock of the scientific rationale and the state of play of organized colorectal cancer screening in France. It is also an opportunity to discuss emerging techniques and strategies that can help improve the results of this screening if they prove their superiority over the current strategy. Intended primarily for doctors, this book is also intended for healthcare professionals and all those who, concerned about their health, have a proactive attitude in terms of screening and preventing this cancer.

This volume, both necessary and new in the panorama of Italian medical literature, acknowledges this and presents an updated and complete review of the pathologies of the central and peripheral nervous system associated with tumors and their treatment. The purpose of the volume is to present an integrated approach between specialists that must see the neurologist and the oncologist in dialogue, and able to develop a new super-specialized clinical capacity in neuro-oncology. Many experts have contributed to its preparation by sharing knowledge on topics ranging from metastatic complications, to those of surgical cancer therapy, radio- and chemo-therapy, paraneoplastic syndromes, pain therapy, delirium and the affective alterations associated with the disease. Land Use and Soil Resources
Land-use change is one of the main drivers of many environmental change processes. It influences the basic resources of land use, including the soil. Its impact on soil often occurs so creepingly that land managers hardly contemplate initiating ameliorative or counterbalance measures. Poor land management has degraded vast amounts of land, reduced our ability to produce enough food, and is a major threat to rural livelihoods in many developing countries. To date, there has been no single unifying volume that addresses the multifaceted impacts of land use on soils. This book has responded to this challenge by bringing together renowned academics and policy experts to analyze the patterns, driving factors and proximate causes, and the socioeconomic impacts of soil degradation. Policy measures to prevent irreversible degradation and rehabilitate degraded soils are also identified.
