This classic handbook leverages the experiences of thought leaders functioning in multiple industry verticals and provides a wealth of knowledge for creating the agile enterprise.
Enterprise interoperability : New challenges and approaches
Interoperability: the ability of a system or a product to work with other systems or products without special effort from the user is a key issue in manufacturing and industrial enterprise generally. It is fundamental to the production of goods and services quickly and at low cost at the same time as maintaining levels of quality and customisation. Interoperability is achieved if internal and external collaborators can interact on at least three levels: data, applications and business enterprise (through the architecture of an enterprise model and making allowance for the semantics of both partners). Not only a problem of software and IT technologies, it implies support for communication and transactions between different organisations that must be based on shared business references. Today, a new and important consideration must be taken into account – economic business evaluation and the definition of dissemination policy.
Enhancing urban environment by environmental upgrading and restoration ; Proceedings of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on enhancing urban environment : environmental upgrading of municipal pollution control facilities and restoration of urban waters, Rome, Italy from 6 - 9 November 2003.
As urban areas keep growing, water infrastructure ages, and the requirements on environmental protection become more rigorous, there is a continual need for upgrading water pollution control facilities and restoring degraded urban waters. Such issues are addressed in this book by focusing on five major topics: (a) Upgrading stormwater management facilities, (b) Retrofitting / upgrading combined sewer overflow (CSO) facilities, (c) Optimising/upgrading sewage treatment plant performance, (d) Urban stream restoration, and (e) Challenges in restoring urban environment. Each chapter contains some overview papers followed by research or case study papers. Besides presentations of new approaches and accomplishments in the field of upgrading and restoration, several papers provide analysis of vast needs in this field in several countries of Central and Eastern Europe, which either recently joined the European Union (EU) or are preparing for accession, and need to comply with the existing EU directives dealing with environmental protection. As such, this book will be of primary interest to researchers and university lecturers dealing with environmental upgrading and restoration, environmental planners from all levels of government, municipal engineers and politicians, and finally the private industry representatives (consultants, private utilities and environmental technology suppliers) searching for new business opportunities among the new or aspiring members of EU.

These three distinct, yet intertwined subjects are treated in an integrated manner. The primary audiences for this book are senior undergraduate, graduate, and practicing engineers in the fields of aeronautical, chemical industrial, mechanical, and nuclear engineering. Topics are discussed in detail while still using a simple and easy to follow approach. Numerous walk-through examples are solved and illustrations are provided to guide the reader through more subtle topics
Engineering Geology for Underground Rocks
This book clearly and systematically explains underground engineering geology principles, methods, theories and case studies, depicts engineering problems in underground rock engineering and how to study and solve them. It specially emphasizes mechanical and hydraulic couplings in rock engineering for wellbore stability, mining near aquifers and other underground structures where inflow is a problem. Using the methods and models given in this book, the reader is able to analyse underground geological engineering problems and also for the design of underground structures.
Endodontic Pain : Diagnosis, Causes, Prevention and Treatment
A concise, well-structured guide to the assessment and treatment of patients who present with endodontic pain, in which step-by-step descriptions are complemented by informative images and flow charts. The advantages, disadvantages, and significance of specific diagnostic and treatment procedures are clearly described, as is a pharmacotherapeutic approach to the prevention and treatment of pain.
Emerging Technologies in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Covers the application of emerging technologies, occurring after the 4th industrial revolution, in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) and introduces a new era of personalized medicine in this discipline. It describes the manufacturing and data acquisition methods, in detail, including the advantages and disadvantages of each process. The workflow of using the emerging technologies in reconstructive treatments, orthognathic surgery, implant dentistry, robotic surgery and bio‑fabrication have been covered in separate chapters.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th International Workshop on Systems, Architectures, Modeling, and Simulation, SAMOS 2008, held in Samos, Greece, in July 2008.
Elementi di fluidodinamica : Un'introduzione per l'Ingegneria = Elements of fluid dynamics : An introduction for engineering
The text offers a first approach to fluid dynamics, at an appropriate formal level. It emphasizes mathematical and numerical approaches to problems, encouraging the reader to acquire sufficient cultural independence for further study.
Elektromagnetische feldtheorie : für ingenieure und physiker = Electromagnetic field theory : For engineers and physicists
This well-established, didactically excellent textbook combines clarity with extraordinary accuracy in the formation of terms and in the derivations. The electromagnetic field theory and the mathematical methods required for it are taught. Maxwell's equations are presented and explained. This is followed by explanations about electrostatics, flow problems, magnetostatics, quasi-stationary fields and electromagnetic waves. It gives an outlook on fundamental questions, some of which are still open, from physics to quantum mechanics. A chapter on the special theory of relativity, with the help of which numerous problems of electromagnetic field theory can be solved more easily, rounds off the work.
Efficient Numerical Methods and Information-Processing Techniques for Modeling Hydro- and Environmental Systems
The book gives a brief overview of various information-processing techniques and demonstrates the interactions of the numerical methods with the information-processing techniques in order to achieve efficient numerical simulations for a wide range of applications in environment water.
Ecological Responses to the 1980 Eruption of Mount St. Helens
The eruption of Mount St. Helens on May 18, 1980, had a momentous impact on the fungal, plant, animal, and human life from the mountain to the far reaches of the explosion's ash cloud and mudflows. Although this intense natural event caused loss of substantial life and property, it also created a unique opportunity to examine a huge disturbance of natural systems and their subsequent responses. Based on one of the most studied areas of volcanic activity, this book synthesizes the ecological research that has been conducted for twenty-five years since the eruption.
Earnings Management : Emerging Insights in Theory, Practice, and Research
In the wake of corporate accounting scandals, the bursting of the Internet bubble, and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act—designed to protect investors and consumers from such excesses—"earnings management" (the set of managerial practices and decisions that influence accounting choices and operating cash flows) has become a focal point of business strategy and academic research. Earnings Management: Emerging Insights in Theory, Practice, and Research is the most comprehensive book to date on the subject, aimed at scholars and practitioners in accounting, finance, economics, law, and public policy. Tracing two key strands of research over the past 25 years—one focused on explaining the phenomenon and one on proposing suggestions for improving practice—the authors highlight theoretical and empirical contributions to the field, as well as regulatory innovations and corporate applications.
Dynamics of Combustion Systems
Combustion systems are confined fields of compressible fluids where exothermic processes of combustion take place, subject to boundary conditions imposed at its borders. The subject of Dynamics of Combustion Systems is presented in three parts: Part 1. Exothermicity – considering the thermodynamic effects due to evolution of exothermic energy in a combustion system Part 2. Field– exposing the dynamic properties of flow fields where the exothermic energy is deposited Part 3. Explosions – revealing the dynamic features of fields and fronts due to rapid deposition of exothermic energy
