Incentives to encourage scientific research at AIU

To encourage scientific research in the Arab International University, the University Council adopted at the beginning of the academic year 2015/2016 a decision outlining the incentives and rewards for scientific research projects and works by researchers from the faculty members at the University and other participants from outside the University, published on behalf of the University according to the following items:

  1. Research published in paper or electronic periodicals by faculty members:
    • Original research registered at the University, completed and published in its name in certified scholarly global English-language periodicals.
    • Original research registered at the University, completed and published in its name in certified scholarly Arabic-language periodicals.
    • Survey research registered at the University:
    • Research, not registered at the University, but published on behalf of the University.
    • Research, not registered at the University, but published on behalf of the University and another party.
  2. Research leading to a product according to the following:
    • The product is marketable according to the principles established by the Scientific Research Council.
    • The product is the property of the University. Researchers benefit from the proceeds of the product according to an additional agreement signed with the University, according to the contribution of each party.
  3. Research leading to patents registered locally or internationally
    • The patent is registered on behalf of the University and the researchers involved. The University and researchers benefit from the proceeds by an additional agreement signed with the University.
  4. Authoring and translation of specialized scientific books in accordance with the following:
    • Writing and publishing a scientific book in English on one of the disciplines-opened at the University on behalf of the author and the University, published in an international publishing house, or translation of a specialized scientific reference book on one of the disciplines at the University into the Arabic language.
    • Authoring and publishing specialized scientific book on one of the disciplines-opened the University in local or Arabic publishing house in Arabic on behalf of the author and the Arab International University.
    • Writing and publishing a book (in an international or local publishing house) by the contribution rate, to publish a book chapter or edit a book chapter in a scientific book in English on one of the disciplines-opened at the University on behalf of the author and the name of the Arab International University.
  5. Funded project on behalf of the University only or in partnership with others in accordance with the following:
    • Everyone who gets funded by the European Union or foreign entity for the benefit of the University project.
    • Everyone who gets a project funded locally.
  6. Research published on behalf of the University in international conferences

General instructions of scientific research:

  1. The establishment of art galleries (the production of researchers of the Faculty of Arts) is considered similar to publication. It is evaluated and referred by a local committee or an international one according to the exhibition. The payment of awards is decided by the Scientific Research Council.
  2. Art galleries (the production of scientific researchers in the Faculty of Arts) are evaluated by a committee composed of two arbitrators, according to the exhibition. The arbitrators are paid whether they are internal or external.
  3. Researchers from members of the teaching staff at the University who work in scientific research receive financial reward, paid by the end of each semester, in the light of evaluation of achievements of the Scientific Research Council.
  4. The University can contract full-time researchers to work in the Scientific Research deanship.
  5. The Council of Scientific Research looks into funding publishing in the scholarly scientific journals.
  6. The Council of Scientific Research looks into financing participating in conferences with a view to publication.
  7. The Council of Scientific Research looks into the financing of sending staff to participate in research conferences which publish papers in the name of the University conferences.
  8. Students benefit from the reward if they publish research registered at the University.
  9. Research, books, and products are evaluated by competent committees formed by the Council of Scientific Research which puts the controls of their work. Rewards decisions are issued by the Council of Scientific Research from the scientific research budget.

Implementation of this resolution begins on the registered research and published as of the beginning of the academic year 2015-2016
