Prof. Dr. Mohammed Taher Ismail
Born in Damascus in 1952, he is one of the most prominent specialists in medical parasitology, mycology, and microbiology in Syria, with academic and research experience spanning over four decades at Syrian and French universities. He obtained a State Doctorate in Medical Parasitology from the University of Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France, following a series of diplomas and advanced studies in epidemiology, immunology, protozoan biology, and comparative endocrinology, in addition to a Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences from the University of Damascus.
Professor Ismail has held numerous high-level academic and administrative positions, most notably:

Head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine – Faculty of Human Medicine, University of Damascus (2005–2007)

He also worked as a Lecturer at the University of Strasbourg in France, served as Acting Director of the Institute of Parasitology and Tropical Diseases, and has long-standing membership in local and international scientific societies, including the French Society of Parasitology and the Syrian Association of Medical Laboratories.
He has extensive teaching experience in both public and private universities, having taught courses in parasitology, medical mycology, bacteriology, clinical microbiology, and specialized subjects for postgraduate students in human medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy.
His research record includes over 30 published papers in peer-reviewed Arab and international journals, covering topics such as intestinal parasites, dermatophytes, leishmaniasis, rare parasitic diseases, epidemiology, foodborne diseases, and viruses. His research has contributed to drawing an accurate picture of the epidemiological status of parasites in Syria over the past decades.
He is known for his pioneering role in the development of laboratory education, supervision of postgraduate studies, and contributions to national scientific and laboratory bodies.
