Dr. Raghdaa Al Zarzour
A researcher and university professor specialized in pharmacology, with over 20 years of academic and research experience at Syrian and Malaysian universities. She earned her PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Science Malaysia (USM), where her dissertation focused on the effect of Phyllanthus niruri extracts on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). She also holds a Master’s degree in Pharmacology from the University of Damascus, and a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Damascus.
Dr. Raghdaa Al Zarzour currently holds the position of faculty member in Pharmacology at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Arab International University, since 2022. Previously, she served as a lecturer and researcher at the University of Science Malaysia (USM) between 2017 and 2022.
During her PhD preparation, she was selected by the University of Science Malaysia as a graduate assistant, financially supported by the university, to assist in teaching practical pharmacology and physiology in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology for three years.
She possesses extensive experience in both practical and theoretical teaching in the fields of pharmacology and toxicology, in addition to her professional experience as a pharmacist at Al-Shami Hospital in Damascus, and her experience in the pharmaceutical industry as a production manager at Domina Pharmaceuticals.
Her research interests focus on metabolic syndrome disorders, including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), obesity, and diabetes, as well as a special interest in medicinal plants and their therapeutic role, natural compounds, and their molecular mechanisms. She has published over 20 scientific papers in peer-reviewed international journals and has a distinctive research presence as reflected in Google Scholar (i10-index: 12) and ORCID.
She has received several international awards and research grants, including the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) from the Malaysian Ministry of Education, Excellence Awards in the High-Impact Publications category from the University of Science Malaysia, and a Short-Term Research Grant from the University of Science Malaysia.
