Dr. Joul Ilias
He holds a PhD in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is an academic researcher with more than 18 years of extensive experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery, spanning clinical practice, university teaching, and scientific research.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Dentistry from Damascus University, followed by a Diploma in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, then a Master’s degree and a PhD. His doctoral dissertation was entitled: “Clinical and Radiographic Evaluation of the Balloon Technique in Maxillary Sinus Floor Elevation.” He also holds the Syrian Board in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
He served as a resident physician at the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Hospital at Damascus University for nine years, gaining substantial hands-on experience in both minor and major surgical procedures, including impacted tooth extraction, fracture management, maxillary sinus lift surgery, and soft and hard tissue surgeries.
He also brings international experience, having worked as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Al Jazeera Medical Center – Qatar / QCHP from 2015 to 2020, where he provided advanced surgical care within high-quality clinical standards. He holds professional licensure in both Syria and Qatar.
In addition to his clinical work, he has contributed significantly to academia as a faculty member and lecturer at several Syrian universities, including Damascus University and the Arab International University, where he currently serves as Head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He also served as Head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the International University for Science and Technology (IUST) between 2022 and 2023, and later taught at the Syrian Private University (SPU) between 2023 and 2024. His teaching expertise covers oral surgery, surgical extraction, head and neck anatomy, and both minor and major surgical procedures.
He has published several peer‑reviewed scientific studies in local and regional journals, including clinical research on the effectiveness of topical tramadol in postoperative pain control following surgical extraction, as well as studies on maxillary sinus lift using the balloon technique, with both radiographic and clinical analyses of success factors.
He has participated in regional and international scientific conferences and has completed multiple training courses in Qatar in areas such as infection control, compassionate care in healthcare, management of sports‑related oral trauma, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.
