This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Integrated Formal Methods, IFM 2005, held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in November/December 2005. Event-Based Programming : Taking Events to the Limit
This book teaches you how to develop software based on parts that interact primarily through an event mechanism. You'll learn how to use events in many different situations, to solve recurring development problems without coupling. The book introduces Signal Wiring Diagram, a novel form of software diagram similar to the circuit diagrams used by hardware designers. The book concludes with a series of case studies, incorporating all featured concepts.
Distributed Event-Based Systems
Event-based architectures inherently decouple system components. Event-based components are not designed to work with specific other components in a traditional request/reply mode, but separate communication from computation through asynchronous communication mechanisms via a dedicated notification service.
Logics of Specification Languages
Dedicated chapters address : the use of ASM (Abstract State Machines) in the classroom; the Event-B modelling method; a methodological guide to CafeOBJ logic; CASL, the Common Algebraic Specification Language; the Duration Calculus; the logic of the RAISE specification language (RSL); the specification language TLA+; the typed logic of partial functions and the Vienna Development Method (VDM); and Z logic and its applications. Each chapter is self-contained, with references, and symbol and concept indexes. Finally, in a unique feature, the book closes with short commentaries on the specification languages written by researchers closely associated with their original development.
Architecting dependable systems V
As software systems become increasingly ubiquitous, the issues of dependability become more and more crucial. Given that solutions to these issues must be considered from the very beginning of the design process, it is reasonable that dependability is addressed at the architectural level. This book was born of an effort to bring together the research communities of software architectures and dependability.
