Modular Algorithms in Symbolic Summation and Symbolic Integration
Brings together two streams in computer algebra: symbolic integration and summation on the one hand, and fast algorithmics on the other hand. In many algorithmically oriented areas of computer science, the analysis of al gorithms placed into the lime light by DonKnuth’stalkat the 1970ICM –provides a crystal-clear criterion for success. The researcher who designs an algorithm that is faster (asymptotically, in the worst case) than any previous method receives instant gratification : her result will be recognized as valuable. Al as, the downside is that such results come along quite infrequently, despite our best efforts. An alternative evaluation method is to run a new algorithm on examples; this has its obvious problems, but is sometimes the best we can do. George Collins, one of the fathers of computer algebra and a great experimenter,wrote in 1969: “I think this demonstrates again that a simple analysis is often more revealing than a ream of empirical data (although both are important). ” Within computer algebra, some areas have traditionally followed the former methodology, notably some parts of polynomial algebra and linear algebra. Other areas, such as polynomial system solving, have not yet been amenable to this - proach. The usual “input size” parameters of computer science seem inadequate, and although some natural “geometric” parameters have been identified (solution dimension, regularity), not all (potential) major progress can be expressed in this framework. Symbolic integration and summation have been in a similar state.
Model-Driven Software Development
Abstraction is the most basic principle of software engineering. Abstractions are provided by models. Modeling and model transformation constitute the core of model-driven development. Models can be refined and finally be transformed into a technical implementation, i.e., a software system. The aim of this book is to give an overview of the state of the art in model-driven software development. Achievements are considered from a conceptual point of view in the first part, while the second part describes technical advances and infrastructures. Finally, the third part summarizes experiences gained in actual projects employing model-driven development. The result is a collection of papers which gives both researchers and graduate students a comprehensive overview of current research issues and industrial forefront practice, as promoted by OMG’s MDA initiative.

Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention – MICCAI 2005 ; 8th International Conference, Palm Springs, CA, USA, October 26-29, 2005, Proceedings, Part I
This paper presents a method for classification of medical images, using machine learning and deformation-based morphometry. A morphological representation of the anatomy of interest is first obtained using highdimensional template warping, from which regions that display strong correlations between morphological measurements and the classification (clinical) variable are extracted using a watershed segmentation, taking into account the regional smoothness of the correlation map which is estimated by a crossvalidation strategy in order to achieve robustness to outliers. A Support Vector Machine-Recursive Feature Elimination (SVM-RFE) technique is then used to rank computed features from the extracted regions, according to their effect on the leave-one-out error bound. Finally, SVM classification is applied using the best set of features, and it is tested using leave-one-out. The results from a group of 61 brain images of female normal controls and schizophrenia patients demonstrate not only high classification accuracy (91.8%) and steep ROC curves, but also exceptional stability with respect to the number of selected features and the SVM kernel size
Medical data processing and analysis
Medical data can be defined as obtaining information from patients (such as signals, images, sounds, chemical components and their concentration, body temperature, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and different treatment measurements) to quantify the patient’s status and disease stage. Computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) systems use classical image processing, computer vision, machine learning, and deep learning methods for image analysis. Using image classification or segmentation algorithms, they find a region of interest (ROI) pointing to a specific location within the given image or an outcome of interest in the form of a label pointing to a diagnosis or prognosis. Computer science, with the evolution of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques, facilitates the modeling and interpretation of results—from carrying out measurements to experiments and observations.

Intrusion and Malware Detection and Vulnerability Assessment 2nd International Conference, DIMVA 2005, Vienna, Austria, July 7-8, 2005, Proceedings
Represents an increase of approximately 25% compared with the n- ber of submissions last year. All submissions were carefully reviewed by at least three Program Committee members or external experts according to the cri- ria of scienti?c novelty, importance to the ?eld, and technical quality. The ?nal selection took place at a meeting held on March 18, 2005, in Zurich, Switz- land. Fourteen full papers were selected for presentation and publication in the conference proceedings. In addition, three papers were selected for presentation in the industry track of the conference. The program featured both theoretical and practical research results, which were grouped into six sessions. Philip Att?eld from the Northwest Security Institute gave the opening keynote speech. The poster papers are being printed as a separate conference proceedings.
