Celiac disease prevalence in Syrian asymptomatic individuals has already been estimated about two decades ago.[6] Recently published studies indicate a huge increase in the global incidence of celiac disease.[7] The use of more sensitive and specific markers, and the better understanding of the clinical forms of the disease, might have increased the number of diagnosed patients.[8] In addition to serological screening in a group of students at the Arab International University, celiac disease will be assessed in view of hematological manifestations and HLA-DQ genotypes.
