During the last 30 years, face recognition and related problems such as face detection/tracking and facial expression recognition have attracted researchers from both the engineering and psychology communities. In addition, extensive research has been carried out to study hand and body gestures. The understanding of how humans perceive these important cues has significant scientific value and extensive applications. this one-day workshop (AMFG 2005) provided a focused international forum to bring together well-known researchers and research groups to review the status of recognition, analysis and modeling of faces and gestures, to discuss the challenges that we are facing, and to explore future directions. Overall, 30 papers were selected from 90 submitted manuscripts. The topics of these papers range from feature representation, robust recognition, learning, and 3D modeling to psychology.

Advanced Techniques in Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining
This explosion is a result of the growing use of electronic media. But what is data mining (DM)? A Web search using the Google search engine retrieves many (really many) definitions of data mining. We include here a few interesting ones. One of the simpler definitions is: “As the term suggests, data mining is the analysis of data to establish relationships and identify patterns” [1]. It focuses on identifying relations in data. Our next example is more elaborate: An information extraction activity whose goal is to discover hidden facts contained in databases. Using a combination of machine learning, statistical analysis, modeling techniques and database technology, data mining finds patterns and subtle relationships in data and infers rules that allow the prediction of future results. Typical applications include market segmentation, customer profiling, fraud detection, evaluation of retail promotions, and credit risk analysis .
Advanced sensors technologies applied in mobile robot
Contains contributions on the latest developments in mobile robotic systems and related research. Various topics with different ideas and applications from mobile robotics have found their place. New ideas are presented for mobile robots that specialise in cleaning floors, power lines and HVAC systems. Images contain information about the spatial properties of the scene they depict. When coupled with suitable assumptions, images can be used to infer three-dimensional information. This useful volume concentrates on motion blur and defocus, which can be exploited to infer the 3-D structure of a scene—as well as its radiance properties—and which in turn can be used to generate novel images with better quality. 3-D Shape Estimation and Image Restoration presents a coherent framework for the analysis and design of algorithms to estimate 3-D shape from defocused and motion blurred images, and to eliminate defocus and motion blur to yield "restored" images.
