Abstract

The levels of zinc and iron in serum of 106 children infected by Giardia lamblia (patients group) and 106 healthy children (control group) was determinated by colorimetric method. The mean value of zinc was 45.01 µg/dl in children of patients group, and 68.21 µg/dl in children of control group. The mean value of iron was 44.51 µg/dl in children of patients group, and 73.54 µg/dl in children of control group. The values of Chi square and p – value show true difference between of patients and control groups in serum zinc or iron or both, which indicate the relationship between the infection by Giardia lamblia and deficiency of one or both of these necessary trace elements.
