The Syrian Computer Society has organized the competition "Junior" for the best and most distinguished project for university students in 2009 out of the SCS goal to encourage and stimulate university students in thinking creatively of the graduation projects that can be applied successfully in actual work environment.
Group of AIU informatics engineering students participated to this competition with a project named: "Visual Dictionary for the deaf and dumb people" and won the fifth place among 35 competed projects.
The competition evaluation was based on the technical idea presented, the ability to switch the project idea it into a product, the newest techniques used in the project and how well the students can handle these techniques.
"Visual Dictionary for the deaf and dumb people" established on the Artificial Intelligence where the computer visionary and images processing.
The project is about translating, through the picture, the moves that represent the Arabic letters (Arabic Sign Language for Deaf and Dumb) into a written letters in a real time.
"Visual Dictionary for the deaf and dumb people" was represented on 3 copies: Desktop copy, Mobile copy, and web copy.

Congratulations AIU Informatics Engineering Students for winning the fifth place among 9 wining projects, all from Damascus University.
Hoping the AIU informatics engineering students will encourage to apply their projects (Junior and senior) to the Idea competition for the semester of 2009-2010 which will be in the period between the 1st of July till the 30th of September 2010.
